“In 1897, industry pioneer George M. Hendee founded a bicycle production company called the Hendee Manufacturing Company. Along with co-founder and chief engineer Oscar Herdstrom, Hendee opened the company’s first factory in downtown Springfield in 1901.

What followed was half a century of unparalleled growth in motorcycle production, innovation, and foundational leadership in curating a true American riding culture. In 1923, the company changed its name from The Hendee Manufacturing Company to The Indian Motocycle Company.

Over its early years of existence, the company displayed extraordinary resilience as its trailblazing success in innovation and on the racetrack continued despite the advent of the Great Depression and two world wars. In fact, not only did the brand survive these tumultuous times, but its considerable contribution to the war effort during WWI and WWII provided essential vehicles to both the American and French troops on the ground.” (indianmotorcycle.com)

Indian Motocycle Company Stock Certificate

Dated: June 14, 1942

Brown Eagle vignette includes the word "Motocycles" leaving out the ’r’ when first used with the name Indian (term used to described any motorized vehicle in the 19th century). Early company seal at the bottom. Signature of E. Paul DuPont as president.

In 1930, industrialist E. Paul Dupont sold his share of Dupont Automobile to Indian Motorcycle, buying a large share in Indian Motorcycle stock. During his tenure he led a period of formidable growth for the Indian Motorcycle Company. Models of DuPont Era had Indian's famous war bonnet logo on the gas tank. Indian's huge Springfield factory was known as the Wigwam, and native American imagery was used in advertising.

In 1940, Indian sold nearly as many motorcycles as its major rival, Harley-Davidson. Indian Motorcycle dedicated a majority of its production to the war effort, focusing virtually the entirety of their production from 1940 to 1945 to the Allied cause in WWII. Indian also manufactured other products such as aircraft engines, bicycles, boat motors and air conditioners.

Encased in a glass floating frame soldered with brass with hanging chain.

loose zip up collar
The zip up collar doesn't hold it's shape in place a bit but otherwise ok.

Decent material, more of a sporty outfit than a tracksuit
I got the XXl which is what I get in Adidas when they’re cut slim. This is not cut slim. I like the looser fit, but it’s not like a tracksuit top at all, it’s like a shirt. The bottom is a plain hem. It’s way too wide for me like this. It needs a drawstring in it or an elastic waist. The material is slick and has a clean finish. The pants are the same as the top, it’s not fuzzy inside, it doesn’t have the same static cling fuzzy polyester gets. It’s thicker than I expected, more like track pants than gym shorts. I need to put some elastic thru the bottom hem so it fits better.

Nice, Soft and Comfortable Tracksuit
First thing my son said when he put it on and the quarter zip was down was that he felt like Paulie Walnuts off The Sopranos. It cracked me the heck up. With the collar that kind of butterflies out, but still stylish. This is a nice and quality tracksuit. It is made of soft polyester and the spandex makes it stretchy. It fits true to size. It fits loosely so you have some room to move around. I got this for my son as he had no athletic type clothes to wear when it gets cold. It is kind of a good thing that the material is not heavy, but it generates heat and is perfect for colder weather. you can't wear it when it is in the mid-70's or so unless you are just a cold natured person. Wearing a T-Shirt under it is great. The tracksuit is perfect to wear to sporting events, a sports bar or shopping on a spring or fall day. The pants fit well and are the proper length. My son is 6' and a buck sixty-five. Fits him like a glove and it still would if he were heavier. The elastic waist is nice and the cords are not uncomfortable like some can be. I recommend this product.
