About the work

For the Whitechapel Gallery, Mary Heilmann has created an edition of twelve Sunny Chairs to accompany her major exhibition Mary Heilmann: Looking at Pictures 8 June – 21 August 2016. The edition comprises of four colours (three chairs in each colour).

This group of sculptural chairs are part of an evolving series, which feature in her Whitechapel Gallery exhibition. In the context of her paintings, these chairs appear as objects, or three-dimensional paintings. Hand-painted in glowing pastel colours; mint, pink, chartreuse and green, these works form part of the mise en scène that Heilmann creates, offering viewers a place to linger. A chartreuse green or blue green play a game of mix and match with the paintings on the walls around them.

About the artist

American artist Mary Heilmann’s (b.1940) career spans five decades, from her early geometric paintings made in the 1970s to her recent shaped canvases in day-glo colours. Her work encompasses a range of mediums including painting, ceramics, furniture and works on paper.

Born in California, Heilmann studied poetry, ceramics and sculpture before moving to New York in 1968 and taking up painting, partly in response to the predominance of sculptors among her contemporaries. Her Whitechapel Gallery exhibition title Looking at Pictures is inspired by a section in the artist’s memoir, The All Night Movie (1999), in which she highlights the self-referential and autobiographical nature of her work. This display explores Heilmann’s formal approach to painting and abstraction, and considers the autobiographical themes that run through her work.

Durable

Excellent material. I wish the hole was a little smaller to keep the treats in better. Also wish they were a little larger and/or oddly shaped so as not to fit under the sofa. Still totally worth it.

Subtle, great dog toy design!
Size: Large
These things are amazing. Stuff them with peanut butter and treats and freeze them of course, but football spike them across the yard to drive your overly hyped dog nuts! And the hole allows you to safely pry it out of a tug battle , just a great design! And it can bobble across a small living space without getting lost like a ball would. Love it!

Treats fall out way to easy
Size: Large
Kinda sorta awful at holding treats in it, they just fall out without my dog even having to touch it really. I spread peanut butter on the inside of the toy and freeze it..works much better that way, nay, works amazing that way. I got this toy to stimulate his brain, so he’s either much smarter than every other dog or the treats fall out too easy..I believe it’s the ladder.

Great for enrichment treats for dogs
Size: Large, Size: Large
Great product and durable. We fill them with wet dog food and freeze it then give it to our dogs as enrichment treats. They love it. It’s super easy to use and strong against dogs bites and chewing

Keeps My Dog Busy and Happy!
Size: Large
I bought this 2-pack of treat-dispensing toys for my large dog, and they’ve been a total win. The rubber is strong enough to hold up against heavy chewing, but soft enough that it doesn’t hurt his teeth. I like that it’s large, so I can fill it with kibble or small training treats, and it keeps him entertained for a long time. The best part is how much mental stimulation it gives—he really has to work to get the treats out, which helps with his energy and boredom. I also noticed it slows down his eating when I use it for kibble, which is a huge bonus since he usually gulps food too quickly. Getting two in a pack is great value. I keep one stuffed in the freezer with peanut butter for a cool snack on hot days and use the other for everyday play. Both clean easily with warm water and soap. ✅ Durable and safe rubber ✅ Keeps dogs busy and mentally stimulated ✅ Doubles as a slow feeder ✅ Great value for a 2-pack Highly recommend if you want something affordable, durable, and actually fun for your dog!
