The first ‘wild’ pinot noir Matahiwi have produced, this wine is an elegant example of a 100% whole cluster wild pinot noir made with zero additives throughout the winemaking process.

Lifted aromatics of baking spice, hot-cross buns and herb give way to baked raspberry and cherry notes poised on a zippy balance of ironstone and earthy tannin.

The Holly range is the best Matahiwi produce. As their reserve range, named after the owners’ daughter, they are a stand out medal winners vintage to vintage.

The vineyard blocks selected for the Holly Pinot Noir receive additional attention during the growing season with a lot of leaf plucking and shoot positioning done by hand to expose the fruit and ensure optimum ripeness.  The Matahiwi Vineyard is planted in several combinations of rootstock and Pinot Noir clones.  For this Pinot Noir, we used the clones of 667, 5, 777, Abel and 113. In the final blend, each clone adds its own character and complexity. Yeasts used in the winemaking process were naturally collected from the vineyard.

This wine is harvested from the very best parcels of fruit on our Home Estate, typically from low yielding vines on the lowest vigor areas within the vineyard.
