Der amerikanische Künstler Richard Aldrich ist dafür bekannt, in einer erweiterten Definition der Malerei zu arbeiten. Seine Werke wechseln zwischen einer Fülle visueller Informationen und einer fast zurückhaltenden Materialität. So reicht seine Bildsprache von reich nuancierten Abstraktionen in Öl und Wachs bis hin zu einer grundierten Leinwand, auf der nichts weiter zu sehen ist als ein Satz des britischen Psychiaters Henry Maudsley aus dem Jahr 1918. Diese Vielfalt an Bildfindungen geht mit radikalen Eingriffen in die Materialität der Malerei selbst einher. Aldrichs Ausstellungen erscheinen wie Konstellationen aus miteinander verwobenen, aber heterogenen Teilen, die sich gegenseitig reflektieren und unterschiedliche Ebenen des Verstehens eröffnen. Im weiteren Sinne geht es ihm dabei stets um die Frage, wie Objekten im Akt der Interpretation Intelligenz zugeschrieben wird. 

Mit neuen Essays bietet diese Monografie die bislang umfassendste Übersicht über Aldrichs Schaffen und eröffnet zugleich neue kunstwissenschaftliche Perspektiven auf einen Künstler, der heute zu den bedeutendsten Malern seiner Generation zählt.

Richard Aldrich wurde 1975 in Hampton, Virginia, geboren. Er lebt und arbeitet in New York City. Einzelausstellungen bei Modern Art, London (2024, 2021, 2019); Gladstone Gallery, Seoul (2024); Fondazione Giuliani, Rom (2022); Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle (2016); dem San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2011) sowie dem Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2011). Gruppenausstellungen im Museum of Contemporary Art Busan (2022), im National Museum of Art, Osaka (2019), in der Aïshti Foundation, Beirut (2018) sowie im Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus (2018). Aldrichs Werke befinden sich in bedeutenden Sammlungen, darunter im Museum of Modern Art, New York; im Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; im San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; in der Whitworth Art Gallery der University of Manchester sowie im Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

Bought this as a cheap work watch, but I guess all the budget went into the solar technology. No date adjust feature, gotta crank the crown over and over to adjust the date. Cheap plastic crystal, scratches and mars just by looking at it. Okay NATO strap. Falls apart quickly, but it's easily replaceable with a better quality one. This watch was received exactly as advertised. First off the watch is economical compared to other watches that advertise the same details. I will say that I have gone through numerous Luminox watches only to be disappointed. This watch fits the bill. It does have solar cells which mean it needs to be exposed to light to keep running, not a problem. Three minutes under my surefire light I am golden. The bezel doesn't rotate actually no big deal for me. I have always required that the bezel moves not anymore after having a bezel that rotates I use it next to never. Here's why, the more I rotate the bezel the more the numbers wear off. The strap on the watch with the catches for the strap are perfect. They actually hold the watch strap in place in lieu of like other big name brands that just flop and slide. As far as everyday use goes this watch is my go to. To be honest I have purchased three. This is the only watch I will wear moving forward, yeah the glass my scratch but even the big names like the Luminox I spoke of earlier scratches too.
