The 2022 Hill of Roses Shiraz from Henschke in South Australia’s Eden Valley is drawn from a single parcel within the Hill of Grace Vineyard, planted in 1989 and now over three decades of age. Composed of 100% Shiraz and farmed with organic and biodynamic practices, this site known as the Post Office Block sits overlooking the historic Parrot Hill. Matured for 20 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads, the wine reflects both its distinct origin and the continuity of Henschke’s approach.

Deep ruby with purple hues, the aromatics are lifted and detailed, showing boysenberry, blueberry and blackberry alongside pink and black peppercorn, five-spice, bay leaf, anise and sandalwood. The palate is bright and finely structured, offering raspberry, mulberry and black cherry layered with dark spice, graphite and cedar. A cool, extended growing season and reduced yields have shaped a wine of clarity and precision, with fine acidity carrying through a long, seamless finish. It will reward careful cellaring and shows well with roast duck or herb-crusted lamb.
