The Wollemi pine (Wollemia nobilis) was known only through fossils until it was rediscovered in 1994 in a remote canyon of Australia’s Blue Mountains. With fewer than 100 adult trees in the wild, it is one of the rarest plants on Earth.
Threatened by disease, climate change, and its extremely limited natural range, the Wollemi pine exists on the edge of extinction — despite surviving for over 200 million years.
