LORIBAFT GABBEH

Details:

Loribaft are rugs woven by people of Lori and Ghashgai tribal descent. The word baft means “weave,” therefore Loribaft means Lori weave!  Loribaft rugs are a progressive quality enhancement, both in weave density and pile structure to their predecessor – the Gabbeh rug. Most Gabbeh rugs were 60,000-100,000 knots/m² while the Loribafts which are woven by Lori and Ghashgai are anywhere from 150,000-350,000knots/m². Not only is the weave better in quality but in most cases the wool is of a finer standard.

The dyes used in these rugs are also natural, meaning that they have been derived from local plants, either bark, husk, root, or shell.  These dyes are used to color the hand-spun wool, which gives it a wonderful marble and painted effect in the carpet field.  This effect is probably what gives these rugs their greatest appeal due to the impressionist whimsical expressiveness they exhibit.

These pieces are usually found in small pieces and larger 2x3m or 2.5×3.5m are quite rare. The designs usually comprise of simple linear geometric expressionist designs rendered from the imagination and characteristic of the simple nomadic life of these pastoral groups. The designs may contain animal, plant and human figures.

Description:

Loribaft’s have been reproduced in other countries; however, it becomes immediately visible by the common person that they lack the natural and original beauty which comes from every incomparable piece produced by the original creators and the natural dyes which give these rugs their uniqueness.  Beware of “knock-offs” from Turkey, India, China and Egypt, to name a few… these cheap imitations are not always hand-made, and usually contain inferior wool and chemical dyes on a cotton foundation. You can usually tell by the white fringe that the rug is a cotton-foundation knock-off.

Price Range and Value:

Medium to high, depending on the craftsmanship.  Although a Loribaft is always a sound investment because of the longevity of the rugs themselves.

Moisturizing, effective, pleasantly scented sunscreen
Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is the go-to sunscreen our whole family has been using for years. It feels moisturizing (but not greasy) and is easy to rub in to avoid any kind of chalky, white residue. The scent is subtle and pleasant, not the strong pronounced sunscreen smell that a lot of others have. Best of all, it is effective! The bottle received is different than the one pictured on Amazon, but we’re not buying it for the bottle, so that’s okay. :) Would recommend.

I hate sunscreens, but...
Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I hate sunscreen in general--for it's texture and smell. But, being the palest family on Earth makes it a daily necessity. I was pleasantly surprised to actually like the smell of this product! It's a light fruity fragrance. It has a smooth texture like lotion and glided on my skin without being too thick or greasy and no white marks. A little goes a long way too! I could hardly believe I was putting on sunscreen and not regular body lotion. My kids had no issue with it either! They let me put this stuff on their little faces without complaint since it goes on so smoothly. Most importantly, this product did it's job and we were sunburn free. The tube is small--4 ounces--but I don't care because it's so worth having something that goes on easy and doesn't make us greasy and stinky. I bought several tubes--one for each member of the family. *If this review was helpful, please click 'yes' below. Thanks!*

It’s ok
Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Doesn’t smell like anything, especially not fruit. Seems to work well- it’s what we use on our faces. I started using this all over on my daughter because their spray version is not good.

Overall this is a very good product
Style: Kids SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I bought this because every sunblock I own eventually gets in my eyes and burns the living daylights out of them. I prefer to use something that isn't laden with chemicals, is cruelty free and reef safe so this looked like it would fit the bill and indeed, it does. It is a true "no tears" formula which I very much appreciate. As with so many zinc based sunblocks there's still a slight "Kabuki mask" effect but it isn't as bad as some of the other zinc products. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's easy to spread because it doesn't have a lot of "slip", doesn't glide like the non-zinc products. You do have to work with it for awhile to get rid of the decidedly chalky consistency but once you get going it seems to be okay. I think somebody else mentioned using a moisturizer before you put it on which seems like good idea even though this is supposed to be moisturizing. Would I purchase this again? I'm pretty sure I will because the "no tears" aspect of the product is important to me. I'll probably use it with a light carrier oil on my face first, let that oil sink in and then put this on top. I'll keep you posted on how that works out. Thank you, Alba Botanica, for being cruelty free and reef safe!
