The Blackmagic Design Spares – Camera PCC4K – PCB Main is the primary logic board (motherboard) for the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. It acts as the central nervous system, housing the image processor, memory, power management, and all primary data interfaces.

Because the PCC4K is designed for high-bitrate Blackmagic RAW and ProRes recording, this board generates significant heat and is densely packed with high-performance surface-mount components.

Core Responsibilities

  • Image Processing: Houses the specialized FPGA/Processor that converts raw sensor data into usable video files.

  • Storage Management: Controls the data flow to the CFast 2.0 slot, SD UHS-II slot, and the USB-C expansion port.

  • Power Regulation: Manages the transition between the internal LP-E6 battery and the external 12V–20V DC input.

  • Interface Hub: Controls the HDMI output, 3.5mm audio jacks, and the mini-XLR phantom power circuit.

When to Replace the Main PCB

  • Total Power Failure: The camera will not turn on even with a known-good AC power supply or battery.

  • "Bricked" Status: The camera is stuck on the splash screen or fails during a firmware update and cannot be recovered via USB.

  • Critical Port Failure: If the HDMI port or USB-C port is physically ripped from the board or has shorted out (these are soldered directly to the Main PCB).

  • System Errors: Persistent "Internal Error" messages that aren't resolved by sensor recalibration or firmware downgrades.

Technical Installation Note

Repair Level: 5 (Expert).

  1. Thermal Management: The Main PCB is connected to a thermal cooling block. When replacing the board, you must clean off the old thermal paste and apply a fresh, high-quality non-conductive thermal compound to ensure the processor doesn't throttle or shut down during recording.

  2. Cable Density: There are numerous delicate ribbon cables (FFCs) for the sensor, LCD, buttons, and battery plate. Use plastic tweezers; a single slip can tear a connector off the board.

  3. Static Safety: This board is extremely sensitive to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). You must work on an anti-static mat with a grounded wrist strap.

  4. Calibration: Replacing the motherboard often requires a "Sensor-to-Board" calibration. Without this, you may see increased fixed-pattern noise (FPN) or color shifts in the shadows. This typically requires Blackmagic’s proprietary service software.

Diagnostic: PCB vs. Sensor

  • It is the Main PCB if: The camera doesn't boot, won't record to media, or the menus are glitching, but the image preview (if visible) looks clean.

  • It is the Sensor Board if: The camera boots and menus work perfectly, but the image has permanent vertical lines, purple tinting, or "stuck" pixels that don't go away.

Pro-Tip: The "XLR Short"

A common cause for Main PCB failure is plugging or unplugging a Mini-XLR cable while 48V Phantom Power is active and the camera is being powered via a non-isolated D-Tap cable. This can create a ground loop that fries the audio processing chip on the motherboard. Always turn off Phantom Power before swapping audio cables to protect the PCB.

Are you dealing with a camera that won't power on at all, or are you seeing specific data errors when trying to record?

Colorful and Vivid
Format: Hardcover
This picture book features vivid cut-paper illustrations that visualize the concrete images in the poetic text. I found aspects of the poem abstract enough that I'm not sure if young children would connect with it, but they can enjoy the rhythmic language and emphasis on phonic sounds related to the letter "O," even if some of the abstract thought is beyond them. The vivid and colorful pages will definitely appeal to both children and adults, and the book has a nice message about hope and God's love. Throughout the book, the letter "O" appears in different colors, and the note at the beginning of the book encourages children to find things in the illustration that start with that letter. Children could also count how many times the letter appears in the text. This would be a great choice for Christian families, churches, and Christian preschools, and would combine very well with a cut-paper craft for kids to do. The author's note also includes some open-ended discussion questions that adults can use with children.

Our Creative Designer Invites Us to Hope Fully in Him
Format: Kindle
Because I’m spending time now in the public schools, I’m seeing how desperately our children need an infusion of hope, so I’m thrilled to share an InterVarsity Press collaboration between poet Luci Shaw and illustrator Ned Bustard in which hope and joy meet. Little meaning-makers will be entertained by whimsical images and then gently introduced to our safe haven of hope, “the center of the loving heart of God.” The O in Hope grows up with your child, for toddlers can point to the multicolored O‘s on each page while older children identify the O words and play I SPY in search of critters beginning with the letter O. Both poetry and hope are meant to be spoken out loud, so wise parents who are determined to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering” will find strong support in words and images that point to the creative Designer whose faithfulness invites us to hope fully in him. Many thanks to IVP Kids for providing a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which is, of course, offered freely and with honesty.

A Treasure
Format: Hardcover
The O in Hope by Luci Shaw and illustrated by Ned Bustard is a beautiful book for children. This book is geared more for younger elementary students, although I read it to my ten year old son and we still loved it. Luci Shaw is an absolute treasure. I read this book after hearing her and Ned Bustard speak about this book on a podcast. I adore her personally and hope she has more poems turned into picture books like this. Ned Bustard was the perfect choice to illustrate this book. I highly recommend this beautiful, cheerful book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
