Who’s that in your garden eating all your bird seed like he hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks? That will be Big Liam the wood pigeon. Big Liam is large, lovely, and all ready for a big pigeon squeeze. 

Would you like to knit Big Liam? It's easy – you'll find everything that you need to knit a cuddly wood pigeon inside this fun knit kit! For some reason lost in the mists of time, my family has always named every wood pigeon spotted in the garden or out in the countryside as Liam. It’s just the way it is. They are all called Liam, and a flock of them are known as a flock of Liams. Hence this knitted Liam.

(I’m a bit gutted that while I was getting my design ready to launch, Oasis announced that they are reforming and now everyone is going to think that poor Big Liam the wood pigeon is named after his musical counterpart. He isn’t.)

Each woodpigeon knitting kit is carefully handmade and packed by me, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cuddly big pigeon friend – No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

If you'd like to add needles to your kit, a pair of high quality 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2.50, and a pack of 2 Pony or Hemline darning needles are £1.50.

Is Big Liam suitable for beginners?

Very much so. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. 

Basic knitting skills that you’ll need to know:

Knit stitch, purl stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. Head on over to my how to knit tutorials if you need any advice!
