This Damascus set gives you five purpose-built knives for complete daily prep. Every knife measures about 12 inches overall, giving the set a matched length across all five blades. Each blade is forged from layered Damascus steel in a flowing wave pattern. Every handle pairs black wood with a bone front section, a steel bolster, and a brass pin. No storage is included.

This is the only Damascus kitchen set at JW Steel Crafts with bone-and-wood composite handles in a Chinese Cleaver, Bread, Carving, Chef, and Boning configuration.

The History Behind This Blade

This five-knife set blends Eastern and Western kitchen tools in one collection. The Chinese cleaver — a wide, light blade built for fast vegetable work and herb chopping — anchors the set, while a carving knife, a Western tradition for slicing roasts, sits alongside it. A bread knife, chef knife, and boning knife round out the lineup. Bone became a favored handle material in custom knife craft for its smooth, dense surface, and pairing it with dark wood gave each handle a two-tone look that stood out on the bench. The JW Steel Crafts bone-and-wood Damascus set carries that blended kitchen tradition in every forged blade.

What Is Inside the Set

  • Chinese Cleaver — Wide, light blade for fast vegetable chopping and herb work

  • Bread Knife — Serrated edge for clean cuts through crusted loaves

  • Carving Knife — Long blade for slicing roasts and large cuts of meat

  • Chef Knife — Primary slicing, chopping, and daily prep

  • Boning Knife — Trimming and detail work around bone

Blade Performance

Every blade is forged from layered Damascus steel in a flowing wave pattern. The layered structure builds consistent edge retention and cutting strength through daily use. Damascus holds a working edge longer than standard stainless under the same load. The pattern varies naturally across every blade — no two are identical. Full tang construction runs through every handle and spreads weight evenly from tip to base for stable cutting.

Handle Construction

Every handle pairs black wood rear scales with a bone front section, giving the set a clean two-tone look. Bone offers a smooth, dense surface, and the wood adds warmth and grip, with natural variation that makes no two handles identical. A steel bolster sits between blade and handle, adding front-end weight for better balance and protecting fingers during heavy prep. A brass pin and steel pins lock every handle to the full tang for long-term reliability.

Powerful and unsettling.
Format: Kindle
This classic by James Cone is a challenge to anyone who thinks it is easy to be Christian in America. It should be read by all white people. The god of the bible is the god of oppressed people. Ask yourself who is oppressed in america. Follow that question to its logical conclusion and you will see why this book is a must read.

The Genesis of Black Theology
James Cone’s initial foray into the intentional development of a black theology ought be required reading for any serious Christian theologian. It challenges long-standing Christian claims by challenging not so much the claims themselves, but the racist presuppositions to those claims. The language is contextual, I suspect, offensive to many. But the language is effective in illuminating the racist presuppositions. Read with a critical eye, one can indeed find under-developed theological claims that could bear sharpened revision. But as with any first revolutionary theological work, the brilliance lies in the courageous and compelling insight that demands personal reflection and dare I say ... theological modification.

Powerful Book
Format: Paperback
Okay, so this was written in the 60’s at the height of the civil rights movement. Given that, you might expect the arguments to be a little dated. Not so. This reflects brilliance of Cone and the failure of America to make real progress. I found Cone’s book to be a damning comment on today’s churches. As a white Protestant I’m ashamed that my church hasn’t embraced more of Cone’s argument. As a Lutheran, we’ve done better than most, but we have more to do. Professor Cone’s work should be required reading for all seminarians and church leaders.

It's Tight but Mostly Right
It is prophetic for it continues to in the here and now. The language is harsh and often accusatory. Great amount of time spent on the oppressor...but not so much on the oppressor with blacks themselves. I do believe White mite learn a thing or two about black oppression. I do believe black should refresh our memory of the need to come together as a nation of the same hue to give America a clue about the blacks from God's point of view.
