The 'Cutie Pie' cherry (Prunus cerasus 'Cutie Pie') is an extremely cold-hardy, dwarf sour cherry shrub developed by the University of Saskatchewan, prized for its sweet-tasting, bright red fruit ideal for fresh eating and preserves. Fruit Flavor & Use: Produces bright red, small cherries (about the size of a Canadian penny, averaging 4g) with a pleasantly sweet flavour and juicy white flesh. They are versatile, suitable for fresh eating, baking, jams, jellies, and preserves. Size & Form: It is the most dwarf of the University of Saskatchewan's 'Romance' series cherries, growing as a compact, multi-stemmed shrub reaching only 4–5 feet (1.2–1.5 meters) in height and spread. Hardiness: Developed for the Canadian Prairies, it is extremely cold-hardy and rated for Hardiness Zone 2. Light & Soil: Plant in a location with full sun in average to evenly moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates urban pollution well. Pollination: The 'Cutie Pie' cherry is self-pollinating, meaning a single plant can produce fruit on its own. However, planting another compatible variety nearby (like 'Romeo' or 'Juliet') can increase overall yield. Maintenance: This shrub suckers (produces new shoots from the roots) moderately, which allows it to form a dense, fruiting hedge over time. Pruning should be done in early spring before buds break dormancy. Harvest: The fruit ripens in July to early August. Due to their small stature, the cherries are easy to net to protect from birds and simple to harvest by hand or by shaking the bush.If you need any more photos or additional information on this product, send us a message using the chat button on our website with the product name, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
