This statement Hei Toki adze-style pendant features a central inlay of genuine mammoth tooth, reclaimed from the North Sea — remnants of the lost lands of Doggerland, which vanished beneath the waves during prehistoric tsunamis. Each piece is hand-carved from ethically sourced materials and designed as a bold talisman for collectors, ritualists, or lovers of ancestral artistry.

The Hei Toki adze form carries centuries of symbolism: the axe head is a marker of protection, work, and transformation. Paired with the mammoth tooth inlay — a material over 10,000 years old — the pendant is a tangible link to both human and natural history.

Geology & Science

Mammoth Tooth:

  • Composed of dentin and enamel with a layered structure formed over years of the animal’s life
  • Chemically rich in calcium phosphate (Ca₁₀(PO₄)₆(OH)₂), giving it hardness and longevity
  • Fossilised in cold marine sediments, which preserved both its structure and coloration

The tooth shows natural wear and colour variation from its time in the sea, giving each pendant a unique character.

Origin:

Fenland bog oak is sub-fossil oak preserved in peat bogs across eastern England, sometimes for thousands of years. Unlike true fossilized wood, bog oak is still technically wood, though it undergoes chemical transformation over centuries.

Composition & Chemistry:

  • Retains cellulose and lignin like normal oak, but tannins from the peat leach into the wood, darkening it to deep chocolate or near-black hues.
  • Mineral content from bog water may include iron, manganese, and silica, which can subtly harden the wood and create natural streaking or variation.
  • Still organic — light, workable, and responsive to carving, but denser and harder than fresh oak due to long-term mineral impregnation.

Hardness & Workability:

  • Bog oak is tougher and more stable than standard seasoned oak due to peat tannin saturation.
  • Moh equivalent is tricky (since Mohs is for minerals), but relative hardness is similar to well-aged hardwoods, making it durable for carving, jewellery, and small structural applications.

Preservation & Environmental Notes:

  • Naturally preserved without heat, chemicals, or human intervention.
  • Each piece is unique, reflecting age, water flow, mineral contact, and pressure over centuries.
  • Reclaimed bog oak is finite — harvesting is strictly limited to previously felled or waterlogged wood.

Spiritual & Symbolic Resonance:

  • Grounding, protective, and stabilising energy due to its long preservation
  • Represents endurance, ancestral memory, and connection to the British landscape

Spiritual & Symbolic Significance

Mammoth tooth carries energy of:

  • Strength and endurance across millennia
  • Connection to ancestral and wild landscapes
  • Transformation and resilience through the forces of nature

The Hei Toki adze itself symbolizes:

  • Protection, wisdom, and transformative power
  • Grounding for spiritual and ritual practice

Together, they form a pendant that is both statement jewellery and talismanic object, bridging deep time, human history, and personal intention.

Great product and service after disappointment
Flavor Name: Traditional, Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Ive tried a few different brands of biltong and made my own. I have to say that this wasn't my favorite. Believe me, i wanted to like it. The taste was sour and most of the bag was pulverized shreds. :( I did find that letting a bit airdry in a bowl made it a little more palatable, but honestly it'sjust sitting in my fridge still, where normally I'd have eaten the whole bag in a day or so. I will say that there was a decent amount for the price. The texture and cut were good on the whole pieces. Also, some of the bites left a weird coating and nasty taste on my tongue, like baking soda or something, but definitely an off taste. I had my own beef jerky store for several years, so I'm a connoisseur, but no snob. -----update 8/13/2019------- I contacted customer service via the email on the bag and got a response. They sent me a new bag and here is the email I sent them back. Very happy now. ....The biltong showed up last Thursday! I'm sorry i kept forgetting to email you. It is delicious. It's night and day difference between the bag I got through Amazon originally. This bag was pristine and the taste is spot on. Every piece is a perfect slice, no shreds or fluff. Dark, rich brown color, not hay colored like the old bag. I really think that the other bag got very hot or something and out the taste off. Thank you so much. Now I know that if I am in the mood for biltong, Ayoba-yo is a good choice. Thanks for the customer service as well.....

Ayoba-Yo Traditional Beef Biltong
Flavor Name: Traditional, Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I have been lucky to visit South Africa a few times in my life. What is not lucky is coming home to the United States and craving biltong. Biltong is a magical, sugar-free, barely processed jerky and once you try it, you will never want to eat American beef jerky again. Biltong made in South Africa cannot be imported to the States, which is probably the saddest thing ever. I have searched for the perfect recreation of what I have eaten while road tripping through the Karoo, and I haven't found anything that can match it. Until I got this Ayoba-Yo Biltong delivered to my door yesterday. My search is over. Ayoba-Yo is a match to the biltong in my memories. The meat is sliced thin and perfect for snacking. It is fresh, doesn't contain any gross preservatives, and the flavors are the perfect traditional blend. Try this biltong and make the switch, you won't be disappointed!

Biltong, any brand, is healthier for you than “beef jerky”.
Flavor Name: Traditional, Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Ayouba Biltong is soft and full of flavor without excess sugar, preservatives, and spices. Good quality: if you can get it on sale or with an Amazon subscription even better. Sometimes settling occurs and more small “shreds” of it than I’d like, but overall a great, good-tasting product. Per ounce? Hey no Biltong is “cheap”. This isn’t Jack’s Links, etc.

Sour moist meat
Flavor Name: Traditional, Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I had a hankering for jerky and found biltong instead. I didn’t know what made it different, but I was willing to try. I was very surprised how moist it was!! It’s better than the jerky here. If I wanted to gnaw on leather then I’d get my belt instead of paying money for dried meat. I liked that it didn’t have sugar. However , the flavor was confusing. It was mostly sour, like too much vinegar. Other reviewers mentioned that too and I must agree. I’m not sure how it’s suppose to taste but this experience makes me hesitate buying any more.
