A charming and highly collectible original Picasso lithographic book cover from 1959, featuring El Torero, one of the artist’s recurring and most beloved subjects.
Throughout his career, Pablo Picasso remained fascinated by the traditions of Spain, particularly bullfighting. The figure of the matador appears repeatedly in his paintings, drawings, ceramics, and prints, serving as a powerful symbol of courage, drama, spectacle, and Spanish identity.
This composition beautifully demonstrates Picasso’s extraordinary ability to capture an entire scene with just a few expressive lines and washes of colour. The central torero is surrounded by fragmented faces and figures, creating a layered, dreamlike image that feels both spontaneous and deeply sophisticated. The loose brushwork and earthy palette are characteristic of Picasso’s late graphic works.
Originally produced as a book cover in 1959, this authentic lithographic piece has been professionally framed and presented with a generous museum-style passe-partout, giving it a refined and elegant appearance.
An exceptional entry-level Picasso and a wonderful opportunity to own an original work connected to one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. Perfect for collectors of Picasso, Spanish culture, bullfighting imagery, and modern art.
