Matt Baker (1921-1959) was the first successful African-American comic book artists in America, and famous for his unique style. Baker worked in many genres, most famous for his portrayal of Phantom Lady, Canteen Kate, Sky Girl, and other beautiful female characters. It was only natural that baker be recruited for love-based comics, where a healthy percentage of the characters would be women. While romance comics are often considered the second-string of comics, when Matt Baker put his pen to the pages, these were exceptions. Midcentury Comics is gathering some of his great romance work into this colorful treasury. This first book brings many of his covers and stories from DIARY SECRETS (1952-1955), a great example of pre-Code comics!

I love this shelf! It took two people to hang it and you definitely want to ensure you hit a stud on at least one side or 1-2 screws if mounting between studs. It is heavy but a single person can lift it, just not maneuver easily due to its dimensions. It has a ton of room and fits mini helmets nicely in my office. Where I mounted it made it difficult to an extent to install but if you are even somewhat handy, you’ll be fine. You absolutely need a stud finder to hang this shelf. Sorry, I’m married! I would buy this shelf, or versions of it, again. Very practical and useful to display autographs, housewares or decor. Last note: do not over tighten the poles. The wood is soft and the poles are light weight. They are not traditional black pipe and weigh far less.
