Composers of Chopin's own time, but above all those of the next generation, adapted the works of Chopin. In particular the mazurkas were much-desired material for transcriptions. The influence of Chopin on Polish composers was great, but internationally his influence also made itself felt. Schumann and Liszt were among the most important of Chopin's admirers, and unreservedly acknowledged his influence on their own work. This album means to illustrate the rich piano repertoire which in one way or another gives tribute to the work of the iconic piano composer Frederic Chopin, with the emphasis on works where the composer explicitly states that his Polish predecessor was the source of his inspiration.

Obtuse
Format: Kindle
Broought and read because Mattis read it. I found it a bit long in the tooth and was a bit disappointed.

Rambling Strategy
Format: Kindle
A man rambles long enough to justify a “full” book- In reality the same theory is repeated over and over
Bottom line - Strategy is the way to accomplish political goals - it has been that way in the past and nothing will change - that’s the whole book
I am not sure why General Mattis includes this on his reading list - it is def one of the weaker recommndations

Reading only because of the theorist
Format: Kindle
Essential only to understand the broader thoughts of Gray. Leaves ample space for further debate on strategy and its implications.
