Lou Reed sang about the lifesaving powers of “Rock & Roll” on LOADED, his fourth and final studio album with The Velvet Underground. Since it arrived in November 1970, generations have been shaking to the album’s “fine, fine music,” experiencing their own kinds of musical salvation thanks to songs like “Sweet Jane,” “Head Held High,” and “Oh! Sweet Nuthin’.”

Rhino spotlights LOADED with a new vinyl boxed set that includes nearly all the music from its expansive 2015 CD reissue, LOADED: RE-LOADED 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION. The forthcoming collection, LOADED (FULLY RE-LOADED EDITION), features nine LPs with stereo, mono, and “Full-Length” mixes of the original album along with a generous selection of demos, studio outtakes, and live recordings. Several tracks from the set will be available on vinyl for the first time.

LOADED (FULLY RE-LOADED EDITION) is limited to 1,970 numbered copies and will be available on March 24. The set is available exclusively at Rhino.com and comes in a deluxe, foil-wrapped slipcase containing the vinyl, a poster of the album’s cover art, and an illustrated booklet with liner notes by Lenny Kaye that appeared in LOADED: RE-LOADED 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION.

In addition to the nine LPs, the set also comes with four 7-inches that reproduce the official singles and B-sides released from LOADED. “Rock & Roll” and “Who Loves The Sun” both come in the generic record sleeves used at the time by Cotillion, the band’s label. The former is being reissued for the first time ever, as the original release was cancelled in 1970, while the latter is being reissued for the first time since 1970. The other two singles come in picture sleeves originally released in Europe: “Head Held High” in France and “Sweet Jane” in Germany.

LOADED (FULLY RE-LOADED EDITION) opens with three different versions of the original studio album: remastered stereo and mono mixes, plus a “Full-Length” version that boasts extended takes of “Sweet Jane,” “Rock & Roll” and “New Age.”

More than two dozen recordings from the making of LOADED appear on vinyl for the first time in the new collection. The music explores the creative process behind the album with early versions of “Oh! Sweet Nuthin’” and “Lonesome Cowboy Bill” and alternate mixes for “Rock & Roll” and “Train ’round The Bend.” Songs that would eventually appear on Reed’s 1972 solo debut make appearances as well, with early versions of “Ocean,” “I Love You,” and “Ride Into The Sun.”

Those studio recordings are bolstered by a selection of live performances recorded before LOADED debuted in November 1970. A few weeks into making the album, on May 9, 1970, the band played at the Second Fret in Philadelphia. Bob Kachnycz, a fan, hitchhiked to the show and recorded the show on reel-to-reel. The band was down to a trio that night: Reed, Sterling Morrison, and Doug Yule, who alternated between bass and drums to fill in for Moe Tucker, who was pregnant then. This show, available for the first time on vinyl, uncovers early performances of several songs destined for the album: “Cool It Down,” “Rock & Roll,” and “New Age.”

The second performance was recorded in New York City at Max’s Kansas City nightclub on August 23, 1970, the day Reed left The Velvet Underground. Several songs from the show were released in 1972 as the live album, LIVE AT MAX’S KANSAS CITY. In 2004, Rhino released a remastered version of the live album that was expanded to include both sets the band played that night. Featured on two LPs in the new collection, the recordings touch on all the band’s past albums with live versions of “I’m Waiting For The Man,” “White Light/White Heat,” “Pale Blue Eyes,” and “Sweet Jane.”

You should have one on standby.
Color: Yellow, Color: Yellow
This product was great for my teething Bully puppy, she, is an aggressive chewer. It gave her relief and kept her busy. In the 6 or 7 weeks that we've had it, it stood the test of time. She would chew 10 or 15 minutes at a time and nap from exhaustion. Overall, several hours of chewing. I must say this toy is not indestructable. In the end it was necessary to remove it and substitute another toy. The bully on the picture looks like a twin of my own pup. I did remove loose slivers and pieces that could be chewed off immediately. I am attaching a pic of the pre-disposal remnants for clarity. This is a tough toy but again, not indestructible.

Bought for my 8 month old lab. Dog toy said for aggressive chewers. Wrong! Super cute and feels heavy duty, but not for aggressive chewers.

Good for aggressive chewers!
Color: Blue
Smelled awful out of the package and it's way heavier that I expected, but it's one of the only toys that my puppy has not shredded to pieces.

Solid Toy NOT For Small Breeds
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
Bought this for my Pug puppy because he's always chewing on our shoes and dragging them outside and in every which direction. He doesn't really damage them, it's more of just a pain to chase him around and try and actually get the shoe from him because he thinks we're playing. So, I looked on Amazon for a shoe toy and found this. It has a decent rating of 4.2 stars currently and it looks pretty sturdy. Well, when I got it, I realized that it's VERY sturdy. In fact, it's too sturdy; at least for a smaller breed like a pug. I know in the title is says for medium to large dogs, but when I looked at the demensions I thought it would be fine for him. He played with it for a few minutes, but it's just too big and VERY heavy for him. I was actually surprised how heavy it was. So, I decided to weigh it on a scale I have and it came out to 0.83 pounds. I actually thought it would read heavier than that (at least a pound), but that's what the scale said and I did it twice to be sure. So, if you have a small dog like a Pug, I wouldn't recommend this. Definitely a great toy for a German Shepherd or something in that category because of how heavy and thick it is. I'm guessing, even with a large breed of dog, this toy is probably going to last a long time. There's also a hole in the top where you can put peanut butter (or some kind if dog friendly treat) inside, which is really cool. I tried that with him as well, but he just wasn't interested. He's more into the Kong plushies. Anyway, in all, it's a pretty good product. Just not for a small breed dog. I'm giving it 4 stars. As you can see from the photos I uploaded, it's a rather small toy, but it's very solid and chunky. I also took a few pictures with a Pilot G2 pen next to it to better judge the size. Would buy from this seller again though if they had other toys for smaller breed dogs. Thank you. 💟 Sarah 💟
