Recorded in Istanbul, the album navigates hypnotic rhythms, cinematic atmospheres and dark political realities. The striking figure of Murat Ertel is standing at the door of his home studio, a converted mechanic's garage in a suburb of Istanbul. The Turkish capital is a tense and conflicted place these days, but Baba Zula's leader and saz man is on fine form. Before him stand those current and former musical nomads, Chris Eckman and Hugo Race, guitars in hand. Dirtmusic are about to take on their latest, and perhaps most thrilling form. Originally a straight-talking, mainly acoustic trio mining blues and country for 21st century gold, the band's first happy accident was to stumble upon Tamikrest at the fabled Festival au Désert in Timbuktu in 2008. In the meantime, however, the Islamist takeover of Northern Mali in 2012 had darkened the sound and the songwriting, giving them a tone that continues to resonate through the new record. The opening track, "Bi de Sen Söyle", is a statement of intent, musically and lyrically: shared vocals that mass in urgent call-and-response, the psychedelic grip of Ertel's saz, which barely leaves the record for a second, and percussion from Ümit Adakale that tells you that this is music for clubs and parties as much as for private spaces. It shares this with "The Border Crossing", the prime slice of Pop Group-inflected postpunk-funk that follows it. It's a questing, restless record for the head, but perhaps more so for the body. It broods throughout, as post-punk, Turkish psych, funk, rock and electronics stalk the grooves with widescreen intent - listen to 'Safety In Numbers', for example, an instant classic that sees Race in imperious form, or "Love Is A Foreign Country", which features a startling appearance by Gaye Su Akyol, a treat for those who loved her Hologram (GB 040CD/LP, 2016). From the Amazon listing, Nocciola promises “Durability Guaranteed” and “Expert Craftsmanship,” boasting multi‑layer composite fabric, chew‑resistant construction, and meticulous stitching.
Yeah… about that.
Within the first ten minutes, the giraffe’s squeaker gave up the ghost. By the thirty‑minute mark, one of our puppies had already liberated one of its appendages and was preparing to eat it. When I took the giraffe away, he immediately redirected his enthusiasm toward the mallard and removed a wing.
Our other puppy went straight for the Red‑Headed Chicken’s throat. She succeeded. She was also making impressive progress on opening the back of its neck.
At that point, all three toys had to be confiscated, and the remaining two are still sitting in the box untouched because I value my dogs’ digestive tracts.
To be fair, the toys sound fantastic—literally. My puppies adored the squeaks, honks, and crinkles. They had a blast tossing them around and sprinting through the house. But the moment they settled down for a chew session, it was game over.
I’m genuinely disappointed that these toys require constant supervision to prevent accidental ingestion, and that my dogs can’t safely enjoy them the way they’re meant to.
If your dogs chew even a little, these toys are not worth the investment.

Waste of money

So much for indestructible, it wasn’t in my home five minutes before the leg came off. No exaggeration! Dixy had the toy in her mouth and I reached up to wiggle it and the leg came off in my hand and no Dixy wasn’t pulling away. I only purchased this toy because it claimed to be indestructible. After shipping and handling it cost me $30. I justified the cost because I thought it would be worth it for Dixy to have a toy that would last. Isn’t that the impression you get by the discrimination “indestructible” To add insult to injury this company sent a second one for another $30 and it really ticks me off that the product discrimination on even the return label still describes it as an indestructible plush dog toy. Please don’t waste your money this not as advertised. There’s nothing about this product to justify the outrageous expense for a toy that didn’t last five minutes.
