Like Huck Finn, Lane sees a river journey as a portal to change, but unlike Twain's character, Lane isn't escaping. He's getting intimate with the river that flows right past his home in the Spartanburg suburbs. Lane's threehundred-mile float trip takes him down the Broad River and into Lake Marion before continuing down the Santee River. Along the way Lane recounts local history and spars with streamside literary presences such as Mind of the South author W. J. Cash; Henry Savage, author of the Rivers of America Series volume on the Santee; novelist and Pulitzer Prize-winner Julia Peterkin; early explorer John Lawson; and poet and outdoor writer Archibald Rutledge. Lane ponders the sites of old cotton mills; abandoned locks, canals, and bridges; ghost towns fallen into decay a century before; Indian mounds; American Revolutionary and Civil War battle sites; nuclear power plants; and boat landings. Along the way he encounters a cast of characters Twain himself would envy--perplexed fishermen, catfish cleaners, river rats, and a trio of drug-addled drifters on a lonely boat dock a day's paddle from the sea. By the time Lane and his companions finally approach the ocean about forty miles north of Charleston they have to fight the tide and set a furious pace. Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones

I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.

I would agree that these are indestructible being neither of my dogs have shown any interest in these at all. At this rate they should last forever…

Durable but losses interest

My dog is an aggressive chewer. She was interested in this toy while it was new, but soon after lost interest. Good news is although it took a beating it did not break or splinter. If soppy toys are disposable in your house, give it a try.

Not strong enough for chewing
My 7 month old pup chewed the end off, where the treats go, within 30 minutes of having it. Shes a Staffordshire terrior, but shes only 30 pounds. She swallowed some of the plastic so be careful if you buy this.

Durable and loved by my dog.

I recently bought this toy for my German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, and I can't express enough how much she adores it. The durability of the material is impressive; it withstands her enthusiastic chewing without showing any signs of wear and tear. Its size is perfect for her to carry around with ease, and it keeps her thoroughly entertained for hours.
I've noticed that there’s no color transfer or degradation from her vigorous play, which gives me peace of mind. I can let her enjoy it without constant supervision, as I trust that she won't be able to chew off any little pieces that could pose a choking hazard. All in all, it's an incredible value for the quality, and I’ll definitely be purchasing another one for her in the near future.
