Warning: This Journal Will Pull You In
    Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Before I read it, I believed this journal was a kind of encyclopaedia of all the mysteries and unexplained events of Gravity Falls. However, it turned out to be something entirely different—an intriguing work of fiction, a captivating page-turner, and a perfect TV-series companion that everyone should have at hand while watching the adventures of Dipper and Mabel Pines and their friends during that one iconic summer. ★★★★★ Art This is a one-of-a-kind book! I’ve never come across anything like it. It is, quite literally, a diary—a journal written and designed with 100% authenticity. You’ll find hand-drawn illustrations and handwritten text sections, as if an explorer, researcher, or scientist documented all of their personal experiences while investigating the eerie town of Gravity Falls. Some pages convey pure emotion; others offer meticulous descriptions of the unknown. Altogether, it grips you and doesn’t let go until you reach the final page. Now I truly understand how Dipper felt when he found this journal—excited, curious, and full of wonder. Bravo! ★★★★☆ Text In addition to everything mentioned above, the text itself is deeply immersive and engaging. The book consists of two main parts (without spoiling the essence): one written by an unknown author, and another by Dipper, who finds the journal and continues it by chronologically recording his and Mabel’s adventures. The variety of fonts brilliantly reflects different personalities and emotional states: trembling handwriting, unstable and chaotic notes seemingly written by a mad scientist; Dipper’s neat, school-like typeface; and Mabel’s colorful, emotional, and expressive writing—almost as if she’s permanently fueled by a generous dose of sugar. For readers who enjoy deciphering codes and riddles, the journal contains puzzles and sections written in several ciphers. Personally, though, these felt more decorative than engaging: sitting with a sheet of paper and decoding letter by letter isn’t quite the experience I want from a book like this. I would have preferred overlays, often used in art books, that reveal the decrypted message beneath without breaking the sense of immersion. ★★★★★ Book Design Starting with the cover—designed to look like a real, well-worn journal—it feels authentic straight away, just like in the show. There are even intentionally distressed areas on the cover, suggesting damage and wear, which adds another layer of believability. Portrait orientation, size, weight, paper quality, font selection—everything is executed with an incredible level of care and love. The only downside is the dust jacket, which can easily wear out or get lost. Without it, the book title isn’t printed on the cover underneath. Still, since the cover perfectly replicates the journal from the show, this small flaw is easy to forgive. ★★★★★ Price I still can’t quite understand how such an incredible book can be sold for such a modest price. Perhaps it’s due to the large number of copies available on the market, but even so, it remains one of the best price-to-quality ratios among the books I’ve purchased in recent years—not to mention the overwhelming number of copies available on the pre-owned market. ★★★★★ Overall Impressions We all know that Gravity Falls is a masterpiece. What I truly regret is that no one ever told me how much more fascinating and immersive the show becomes when you watch it with this journal in hand. You read the first part, get acquainted with the main characters, and then return to the journal after each episode—as if you’re staying right beside them at the end of the day, listening as they write down everything that happened. I could almost smell the wood of the Mystery Shack and hear the evening crickets outside the window while imagining it all. In short, this journal is an absolute must-have if you’re a fan of the show—or if you have kids of the right age who are ready to watch it and join its worldwide fan community. The biggest drawback of this journal is that it’s Journal #3. Journals #1 and #2 exist only as single pages shown in the series—forever teasing your imagination and teaching your inner perfectionist to accept this universe as it is, while firmly believing that somewhere in parallel dimensions, Journals #1 and #2 are all-time bestsellers.

A Must-Have for Gravity Falls Fans
    Format: Hardcover
I absolutely loved this book. I’m a big Gravity Falls fan, and having Journal 3 in physical form just feels different. It really feels like the actual journal from the show. There are so many details, drawings, and hidden things that you don’t fully see in the episodes, which makes it even more special. I was honestly surprised by how well made it is. The pages, the cover, everything looks amazing. I had so much fun reading it and looking for secrets. If you like Gravity Falls, it’s 100% worth buying. I don’t regret it at all. 💛📖

Terrific Gift - With One Big Catch
    Format: Hardcover
There's one thing that you really need to know about this book before ordering. And by all means, you should definitely order it if you or someone that you love is a fan of Gravity Falls. I watch the show with our Daughter, who also happens to be a diehard Bill Cipher fan. And she absolutely loves this book, it made her so happy to get it as a Christmas present. It's visually amazing, awesome illustrations, good colors. Just full of cool stuff that will appeal to any fan of the show. But, there's one catch..... A good portion of the book includes writing that's in cursive. Back in 2010, Common Core led to most states dropping requirements for students to learn writing in cursive. In the years that followed, about half of the states in America changed their tune. But it's entirely possible that you live in a state that doesn't require it to be taught in public schools. So if your child doesn't know how to read cursive, there's going to be parts of the book that they simply can't read. But even if they can, there are also parts of the book in which the writing is very small, or the graphics look almost pixelated and slightly fuzzy. Which still makes certain parts a little difficult to read. That said, should you still buy the book? 100% yes, because that doesn't really make a huge difference on whomever you are gifting it to. It's just something worth noting before anyone orders it. Our Daughter couldn't be happier, having received this as a present. We already had the Book of Bill, and this one is a welcome addition to her home library.

Gravity Falls Fans, Your Time Has Come With This Excellent Book
    Format: Hardcover
'Gravity Falls' was one of the best animated series to be created on the Disney Channel, where the majority of shows are trash IMO. The humor, voice acting, writing, animation and mythology were all perfect. Very much like a kids version of The X-Files, but not dumbed down and still very adult in many ways. Dipper's Journal 3 was something I've always desired to see become an actual bookshelf tome and now fans, like myself, have it in this extremely awesome book. All the pages shown throughout the series are there, as well as those that were never seen or hinted at, and a large section supposedly added by Dipper and Mabel. One of the best features that caught me by surprise were the front and rear covers. Normally, a book with a dust jacket like this has a neutral plain one color cover to it under the removable jacket. Not this baby! It looks just like the jacket, just without the logos. Really, you don't even need the jacket, but it does protect the beauty of the real covers. Even better, the publisher went a step further by adding a treat to fans on the inside of the dust jacket. Blueprint forms of the Memory Gun, Gideonbot, The Portal, Laptop and Sea Monster submersible. I never expected that since 98% of them are just white on the inside. Another wonderful addition is the sewn in cloth bookmark. You know a hardcover is well made when they have one of these. Shows the publisher spent time to make it worth having and enjoying. I'm not going to talk about the interior pages, since they are all fantastic. Just get the book and have a great time with it. Now, there are two things missing that should have been included, and technically would have dropped my rating to four stars, but the book is still five nonetheless. It is missing a cryptogram decoder page and a foldout poster of the full Bill Cipher cryptogram map Dipper and Mabel had to put together using all three journals. There is a decoder on-line, but having it in the book should have been a no-brainer addition since every page has codes to decipher. Writing wise, the only minor thing that bugs me is with the misuse of commas, or the lack of, where they should be at times. For example, when describing three things - blue, red and green - Rob Renzetti has a tendency to do like a LOT of people have started up over the last decade or so in putting a comma after the second word 'red' when it doesn't belong there. Yes, I'm being a grammar nitpick, but it really gets annoying after awhile. These elements are minor and the amount of excellent artwork and information contained within the book make up for missing items and writing issues. It's a shame the 'Special Limited Edition' version with blacklight ink pages, removable images/notes and a magnifying glass is so extremely expensive. Instead of two books, there should have been just one with all of the goodies. This is a must have for all Gravity Falls fans. Don't miss it.
