Emphasis is on the development of science facilities and programs, particularly the marine sciences. Meticulously researched, the book describes some of the key people and events that shaped campus development and includes over eighty photographs, primarily from University archives.
The author is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Biology and Director Emeritus of the Institute of Marine Studies. He joined the UC Santa Cruz faculty in 1965 and retired at the end of the 1990-91 academic year.
