Established in 1871 by Devenport & Company Limited, it was originally known as Nahore Balasunlater renamed after the Balason River that flows gently through its lush terrain. In 1963, the estate became part of the Darjeeling Consolidated Tea Company and has been managed by Jay Shree Tea & Industries Ltd.
