Over time these have gained a kind of mythical status not for any particular reason as the circuit of the amp never changed throughout production. That said, I have compared extensively to my 6505, and while there shouldn't be any appreciable difference, there is some kind of magic in the older amp. Could it be just related to the age of the transformers?

Over time these have gained a kind of mythical status - not for any particular reason as the circuit of the amp never changed throughout production. That said, I have compared extensively to my 6505, and while there shouldn't be any appreciable difference, there is some kind of magic in the older amp. Could it be just related to the age of the transformers? Tolerances? Either way, I'm not sure I've come across a comparison where the Block Letter version didn't come out on top.

As a bonus, I've included 15 extra profiles from my US made 6505 so you can have a modern take on the same circuit.

Profiles captured with a range of guitars, dialed in for different sounding cabinet IR's and across all modes and channels on the amplifier.

I would recommend adjusting the dist sens control a little based on your guitar and pickups. Usually for me, around +3 seems to match the response of the amp closest but this will vary for every situation.
