Genres are dusted off like fabulous half forgotten dresses, there is a flurry of accessorizing and eventually a beautiful girl steps out of the changing room. But enough with the metaphors. The Yearling is Piney Gir's third full album, marking the latest move in a fascinating career that's already spanned jazz, electronic pop and full on country y'all. Angela Penhaligon, for she is Piney, has made perhaps her definitive album, all Kansas plains heartbreak fed through a blend of electronica, folk, wistful pop and knowing jazz. No boundaries, no apologies, all melodies. Produced with her sonic collaborators the Age of Reason and an international cast of musicians from gospel choirs in Kansas City to saw players in Tooting, the album is a sumptuous musical ride. Which other writer could combine delicate heartbreak sci-fi folk (The Weeping Machine), with straight to the bop pop (Say I'm Sorry), whilst plying her way with a campfire narrative (Miss Havisham) and all of it dipped in the gal's never less than pin-sharp eye for a great story about the wanderings of the heart. Quite a cocktail,... this is Piney's most dazzling record yet... The yearning of her country record, a dose of the heartbreak-on-the-road (who knows?!) with cutting edge production that takes it's nods from everything between German electronica and warm 70s FM radio. Live she is an audio visual delight incorporating costume changes, mixed media projections, puppetry, not to mention the Age of Reason and the Reasonettes is like someone let the toy box out to play.

Pages are a little thin but nice Bible.
Format: Leather Bound
This Bible is a great option for someone with good eyesight, as the print is on the smaller side. I personally prefer larger print, but the smaller text does make it more compact and convenient to carry. I got this for my daughter in college, and it’s perfect for her since she likes to take notes during sermons.
The leather cover is very nice and adds a quality feel. I do wish the pages were a bit thicker, as there is some show-through from writing on the other side—something to keep in mind for a journaling Bible. Overall, it’s a nice, basic option for jotting down notes and reflections.

Great for my expectations!
This is not the Bible that I read from during my daily quiet time, nor the Bible that I take to worship with me at church - but also not my originial intentions, which was to have a small compact (but complete) Bible to have with me at all times. It is small and lightweight, and easy to carry in my purse; available any time I need to reference it.

Beautifully Made
Format: Leather Bound
This Bible is absolutely beautiful and feels very high quality. The natural brown leather has a classic, timeless look, and the flap with the strap closure is a really nice touch that makes it feel both elegant and practical. It keeps everything protected and gives it a unique design compared to standard Bibles. The journaling layout is one of my favorite parts. The margins are wide enough for notes, reflections, prayers, and study thoughts without making the pages feel too crowded. The paper is fairly thin, as expected with most Bibles, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was minimal bleed-through when using pens that aren’t overly heavy. It’s been great for both personal study and devotional time.
Overall, this is a gorgeous journaling Bible that feels thoughtfully made. It would make a wonderful personal Bible or a meaningful gift for someone who enjoys note-taking, Bible study, or journaling alongside Scripture.
