In what follows can be found the doors to a house of words and stories. This house of words and stories is the Archive of New Mexico and the doors are each of the documents contained within it. Like any house, New Mexico's archive has a tale of its own origin and a complex history. Although its walls have changed many times, its doors and the encounters with those doors hold stories known and told and others not yet revealed. In the Archives, there are thousands of doors (4,481) that open to a time of kings and popes, of inquisition and revolution. "These archives," writes Ralph Emerson Twitchell, "are by far the most valuable and interesting of any in the Southwest." Many of these documents were given a number by Twitchell, small stickers that were appended to the first page of each document, an act of heresy to archivists and yet these stickers have now become part of the artifact. These are the doors that Ralph Emerson Twitchell opened at the dawn of the 20th century with a key that has served scholars, policy-makers, and activists for generations. In 1914 Twitchell published in two volumes The Spanish Archives of New Mexico, the first calendar and guide to the documents from the Spanish colonial period. Volume Two of the two volumes focuses on the Spanish Archives of New Mexico, Series II, or SANM II. These 3,087 documents consist of administrative, civil, military, and ecclesiastical records of the Spanish colonial government in New Mexico, 1621-1821. The materials span a broad range of subjects, revealing information about such topics as domestic relations, political intrigue, crime and punishment, material culture, the Camino Real, relations between Spanish settlers and indigenous peoples, the intrusion of Anglo-Americans, and the growing unrest that resulted in Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821. As is the case with Volume One, these documents tell many stories. They reflect, for example, the creation and maintenance of colonial society in New Mexico; itself founded upon the casting and construction of colonizing categories. Decisions made by popes, kings and viceroys thousands of miles away from New Mexico defined the lives of everyday citizens, as did the reports of governors and clergy sent back to their superiors. They represent the history of imperial power, conquest, and hegemony. Indeed, though the stories of indigenous people and women can be found in these documents, it may be fair to assume that not a single one of them was actually scripted by a woman or an American Indian during that time period. But there is another silence in this particular collection and series that is telling. Few pre-Revolt (1680) documents are contained in this collection. While the original colonial archive may well have contained thousands of documents that predate the European settlement of New Mexico in 1598, with the Pueblo Indian Revolt of 1680, all but four of those documents were destroyed. For historians, the tragedy cannot be calculated. Nevertheless, this absence and silence is important in its own right and is a part of the story, told and imagined. Let this effort and the key provided by Twitchell in his two volumes open the doors wide for knowledge to be useful today and tomorrow. --From the Foreword by Estevan Rael-G lvez, New Mexico State HistorianBinding Type: Paperback

Fantastic Dog Toy!!!
Color: Purple
This is a great toy!!! My dog has lots of toys. But one of the problems is he has trouble getting the squeaker to squeak. He's an 18 lb terrier mix, and those squeakers are just elusive. Breaks my heart.
This one, though, the squeakers (there are two) are in small areas (head and tail), that are easy for him to get his whole mouth around and squeak. They also don't move, which also makes them easy to squeak.
So he's been squeaking up a storm since he got this!
Other plusses:
* The material is great (soft, furry material, that seems to be of good quality).
* The toy expands and contracts, which is fun.
* It's pleasant to look at.
All in all, I'd say this is one of the best dog toys I've ever bought for my dog. Highly recommended!

Great Toy in Spite of Everything.
Color: Purple
My dog is a border collie. She loves chewing, fetching, tug of war and catch. The first day we had this toy she chewed off two of the feet. I didn't give it much of a life span. Two weeks later she chewed off a third foot. Miraculously no stuffing was exposed. It has now been a month and the toy is still going strong, albeit with one foot! She loves it.
It is now June 1st. It has been almost three months and I am retiring the toy. It no longer has any feet and the tail has been ripped open and stuffing is coming out. All in all I think I got my money's worth from this toy. I ordered another one. She still loves it!

Awesome, but not the best squeakers.
Color: Purple
I bought the orange gecko for my 5-month-old Corgi puppy. He absolutely loves it. He came up with a "game" (sort of) where if I pick it up and start squeaking one of the ends/squeakers really quickly over and over, he'll grab the other end/squeaker and start doing the same thing with me. It was really cute until one of the squeakers stopped working about a week after I bought it... but I guess the toy wasn't too expensive, and he doesn't really seem to mind that one of the squeakers doesn't work anymore. I might buy another next time I do an Amazon order (so I can get the free shipping) and see if it lasts a little longer.

Great Toy For a Great Price
Color: Purple
My Aussie loves toys and plays with them as though she is a small child. She has a basket and will go to the basket and dig through it until she finds what she is looking for. Lately she has been using the bungee gecko as her toy of choice. She gets bored easily and will rip the stuffing out of most toys, the fact that this one has lasted 6 weeks or so is impressive with no rips, holes or missing limbs. Her favorite way to play is to come over to me and nudge me to play tug of war and we have broke many toys this way but so far we can play tug a war several minutes at a time and the gecko is still in one piece. For the price which is considerable less than some of her other toys I have already ordered a couple of replacements for the future. This is a great well built dog toy that has has a lot of give and can be stretched without ripping.
