It’s 1967, the Explorer reference 1016 had recently been transitioned by Rolex from glossy gilt dials to matte finished ones. This MK1 “Frogfoot,” an uncommon variety, appeared during this momentous change and was only produced for a very short period of time – What makes it unique? It features the Rolex coronet so extensively splayed it resembles a frog’s webbed foot – This unique, almost whimsical signature caught collectors’ attention right away. According to estimates, there are just a few hundred matte MK1 dials left in the entire world, and even fewer can be found on their original 7206 Riveted Oyster bracelet, making this Explorer I, one of the rarest of all matte dial 1016s.

The MK1 matte dial sports thick, “fat” tritium numerals, often also referred to as “greasy” tritium numerals – this is a typical early production feature of the MK1 “Frogfoot” Explorer. That “fat” Tritium directly lights up under UV light, then fading correctly. Observe this watch closely and you will see that it also still features the original so-called Long Hands: meaning the minute and seconds hand, reach right to, and slightly extend the minute track – Why is this important? Well, many early Explorers were serviced by Rolex and fitted with shorter replacement hands that shatter the optical harmony and actually deduct the watch’s value and history. Not with this one though, here everything checks out and is all original! The same applies to the steel bracelet, as this MK1 “Frogfoot” Explorer I is fitted to its original and correct 7206 riveted Oyster bracelet with 58 end-links, a detail other examples lack, adding value and authenticity to this particular 1016 – This Explorer wasn’t coddled. Perhaps it scaled mountains decades ago.. fact is, it was used what it was intended for with the occasional battle scars on the case and/or bracelet to prove its adventures life.

By the way, this 1016 has had only three previous owners over the past 58 years. Originally delivered to the United States, it remained with its first owner until around 12 years ago, when a gentleman collector acquired it on eBay directly from the original owner’s family. Most recently, it was owned and worn by our client for around four years, who then recently traded the watch with us – Now fully serviced by expert hands, this Explorer is once again ready to embark on many new adventures with another gentleman (or perhaps lady) owner/collector.

NOTE: this 1016 Explorer is covered by our exclusive ‘Vintage Collectors’ warranty, a testament to our commitment to excellence in horology – Elevating your experience with us, this unique warranty spans an impressive five years and is reserved exclusively for our finest, most authentic and all original vintage watches.

I Am My Brother's Keeper.
Format: Paperback
I Am My Brother's Keeper. I had met Gary Rhule , a Jamaican American, because we are both Connecticut authors and belong to CAPA , Connecticut Author's and Publishers Association. I had offered to read and review his book about essential survival skills for recovery from mental illness , because like Dr. Rhule, I also work in a hospital with patients who have neurological and or psychiatric brain disorders. However , I found the book to cover more than just that. It deals with the stigma of mental illness, the choices a sibling and care giver have to choose, and the decision to care for a brother who has mental illness. The book also juxtaposes Gary Rhule's work as an emergency room physician with the work of being a caregiver for a sibling , saving lives and enabling people in both situations. But , unlike the gloomy feeling one might expect from a book dealing with mental illness, this book is exciting , full of interesting stories, and loaded with life's lessons that may be learned from an ER doctor. From the moment I read the first paragraph I was captivated and knew this was a well written book. You can't make this stuff up. With script like " We are glad you came." She said again. " Sometimes when we call families , they do not come . You know , they have lives too". You can say Gary has found his "calling" when he decided to take up the challenge of caring for his sibling. However , the above sentence could apply to anyone caring for a family member , for instance a child with a developmental disorder or a parent who has developed dementia. From the perspective of working in an emergency room , the action competes with anything I have seen on TV. " All the bones and tissues of the ankle and foot were displayed for the entire world to see. Frank Netter , the medical illustrator, could have drawn the ankles anatomy from this wide open view. Surprisingly , there was little blood despite the magnitude of the injury..... I shook my head in disbelief as I imagined his falling , and hearing the snap and loud crack as he fell off the ladder." How do you deal with pain , both physical and emotional ? Read the book and find out. Dr Rhule hopes that by reading his story , others will band together and take up the responsibility of understanding how to cope and deal with mental illness in a family member. Jason is author of Being In Control : Natural Solutions for ADHD, Dyslexia and Test Anxiety".

Brought the adventure to life
Format: Paperback
I didn’t expect to feel so pulled into these ancient stories, but this translation made the adventures and struggles feel real and vivid. The language is modern enough to understand easily but keeps the weight and drama of Homer’s world. It’s the kind of book that makes you appreciate why these stories have lasted so long, and it’s been a rewarding read I’m glad I added to my shelf.

Finally made Homer click for me
Format: Paperback
I’ve tried reading The Iliad and The Odyssey before but always got lost in the language. This translation is clear and smooth while keeping the epic feel of the stories. It helped me actually enjoy the characters and battles without feeling like I was stuck in a high school assignment. It’s made these classics feel alive and human, and I’m glad I gave it another try with this version.

Epic tales that still resonate
Format: Paperback
I dove into Dawson’s twin translation of The Iliad and The Odyssey hoping for clarity—and instead found myself struck by their emotional pull. Achilles’ fury, Hector’s honor, Odysseus’ longing for home—it all felt immediate and real. Dawson’s language flows so naturally, I forgot I was reading an ancient text. There were moments I stopped and sighed, moved by how these characters still speak to our hearts today.

I’ve been taking my time with this, and it’s been surprisingly relaxing to read on slow mornings. It feels clear and easy to follow, which makes these stories feel alive instead of like homework. Glad I gave it a try.
