Overview:

The Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM Lens is a versatile ultra-wide-angle zoom lens designed for Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras. Combining a broad focal length range with a constant f/4 aperture, this lens is ideal for capturing expansive landscapes, architectural details, and dynamic wide-angle shots. As part of Canon’s esteemed L-series, it offers exceptional optical performance, durability, and advanced features suited for both professional and enthusiast photographers.

Detailed Key Features:

  • Ultra-Wide Focal Length: The 14-35mm zoom range provides a wide field of view, allowing for creative compositions and expansive perspectives. This focal length is perfect for landscape photography, architectural shots, and tight interior spaces where capturing a broad scene is essential.

  • Constant f/4 Aperture: The lens features a constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range. This provides consistent exposure and depth of field control while allowing for good low-light performance and flexibility in various lighting conditions.

  • Image Stabilization (IS): Equipped with Optical Image Stabilization, the RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM significantly reduces camera shake and blur, especially beneficial when shooting handheld at slower shutter speeds. This feature ensures sharp images and reliable performance in challenging conditions.

  • Nano USM Autofocus: The lens incorporates Canon’s Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor) technology for fast, precise, and nearly silent autofocus. This enhances the lens’s ability to quickly lock onto subjects and provides smooth performance for both stills and video recording.

  • Professional L-Series Build: As part of Canon's L-series, the RF 14-35mm is built to professional standards with a robust and weather-sealed construction. This ensures durability and reliability, making it suitable for use in various environmental conditions.

  • Advanced Optical Design: The lens features advanced optical elements, including Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) and aspherical glass, to minimize chromatic aberrations, distortions, and other optical imperfections. This results in sharp, high-contrast images with accurate color reproduction.

  • Customizable Control Ring: The lens includes a customizable control ring that allows for direct adjustment of key settings such as aperture, ISO, or shutter speed. This feature provides added convenience and speed during shooting.

  • Compact and Lightweight: Despite its wide-angle capabilities, the lens is designed to be relatively compact and lightweight for its class. This enhances portability and ease of use, making it a practical choice for travel and on-the-go shooting.

  • Circular Aperture: The lens features a 7-blade circular aperture that contributes to pleasing bokeh, adding a professional touch to out-of-focus areas and enhancing overall image quality.

Summary:

The Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM Lens is a high-quality ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that offers a versatile focal length range with a constant f/4 aperture. Its advanced optical design, effective image stabilization, and fast Nano USM autofocus make it ideal for capturing expansive landscapes, detailed architectural shots, and creative wide-angle compositions. The lens’s professional L-series build ensures durability and reliability, while its customizable control ring and compact design enhance usability. This lens is an excellent choice for photographers using Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras who seek a premium ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for a variety of shooting scenarios.

This book is the real deal
Format: Paperback
This book is the real deal. I found it to be eye-opening, because, despite sounding very advanced and almost next-level, the attacks accompanied by source code show how simple and effective they are in reality. This book seemed light at first (200 pages), so I was skeptical at it's ability to really tackle advanced topics, but I will say I was very pleasantly surprised. Those two hundred pages are action packed and filled with jaw-dropping 'this is cool' moments. My only gripe with it is that it's a little formulaic, with the social engineering being shoehorned into every attack, and maybe pushing the whole APT thing too much, like when you really want something to become 'a thing'. Do we really need to socially engineer payloads using the same formula for all of the attacks? Not even one 'ha Ked the router with boring Cisco exploits' example? I guess it wouldn't make for an entertaining book.

Best pentest book read to date
Format: Paperback
This is the best penetration testing book that I have ever read to date. There is such a depth of understanding of penetration testing that is conveyed in this book in the way that the author is able to portray highly advanced topics in a conceptually understandable way. A novice might not be able to follow the text, as it is advanced, but for anyone looking to open their mindset up to becoming a more effective penetration tester, I HIGHLY advise this book.

Worth every penny
Format: Paperback
This book is in a class of its own compared to other security and pentesting books. I would highly recommend to anyone interested or currently working in network security. Instead of simply explaining how to use common pentesting tools, Wil Allsopp explains how they work and how to write your own custom tools from the ground up. Even if you do not have a programming background, it is worth understanding how an attacker can infiltrate a "secure" network without being detected.

They aren't using crappy malware, so if you're InfoSec program is built ...
Format: Paperback
Bought yesterday, can't put it down -- will reread it again this week. This book is a solid gold mine on pulling our InfoSec heads out of our InfoSec tailpipes and focusing on the modes and methods our real adversaries are using. (Pro Tip: They aren't using crappy malware, so if you're InfoSec program is built on stopping malware you should be concerned.) We all hear about the social engineering component to an effective attack, but to see it so effectively used over and over again with Wil's case studies really drives home the point. If you're involved in either the management of an Information Security program, or involved in the more tactical parts of penetration testing, I'd put this on your short list of books to read this year. I hope he does a follow-up.
