"N. D. Galland has created a delectable romantic comedy set in her home town of Martha's Vineyard long after the summer crowds have departed. With a satirist's eye and a pitch-perfect ear for the social nuances of small-town life, it's Pride and Prejudice for the Bumble generation."

-- Geraldine Brooks, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of March and The Secret Chord

From the critically acclaimed author of Stepdog and The Fool's Tale comes a romantic comedy that tells the story of one journalist secretly juggling two bylines for competing newspapers on a small island.

One island, two newspapers, and the reporter who played them both

Joanna Howes is a Martha's Vineyard native who left the Island at eighteen and moved to New York City to become a writer. Now in her thirties, she reluctantly returns to care for her cranky, injured uncle. Needing income, she freelances for one island newspaper (the one Uncle Hank likes). But that doesn't cover her bills, so she creates an alter ego to write for the rival paper (the one Uncle Hank doesn't like).

The Vineyard has a split personality - part elite summer resort, part working-class small town. The Island's two papers -the Journal and the Newes - are famously at odds with each other and reflect the seasonal schism in their reporting. Everybody's shoulder seems to have a chip on it.

Joanna gets personally ensnared in a messy situation she's assigned to write about for both papers: a wealthy seasonal resident sues the town for the right to use his private helicopter. When Johanna agrees to a cup of coffee with the witty, handsome stranger she meets at a zoning board meeting, she has no idea she's made a date with Orion Smith, helicopter owner. Orion, meanwhile, doesn't realize Joanna is the niece of his political nemesis, Henry Holmes.

Joanna scrambles to keep her disparate identities separate from each other in the tiny off-season community, but everything she does just gets her into deeper trouble...and further complicates her budding romance with the exasperating charmer she's doing her best not to fall for.

A story about the half-truths we tell ourselves - and others - especially when our hearts are on the line.

"The most exciting story of skullduggery, intrigue and drama on Martha's Vineyard since the last time Alan Dershowitz was snubbed at a cocktail party."

-- Peter Sagal, Host of NPR's "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me " and author of The Incomplete Book of Running

" A] gem of a novel. . . . this rollicking rom-com unfolds on Martha's Vineyard, which has spun its own share of fables. Quick, somebody call Hollywood. This one is ready for the big screen."

-- Bob Drogin, author of Curveball: Spies, Lies and the Con Man Who Caused a War

Clear, Concise, and Compelling
Format: Kindle
The author takes us in an extraordinary trip through and about time. In particular, the discussion about Einstein’s Special and General Theories of Relativity were illuminating, clarifying a complex aspect of the nature of the universe. How should we think about time? This book will help the reader arrive at answers to that question.

Great plot, steamy goodness, and absolute heartbreak, what more could you want?
Format: Paperback
“I’d already concluded a long time ago that I would never love someone the way I’d loved Wren—the way I still loved her. Because it didn’t matter if it had been ten days or ten years. A love like that ruined you for all others.” Suspenseful, Heartbreaking and Surprising! I have only read one other Catherine Cowles book; Tattered Stars and I loved it just as much as I love Whispers of You. The thing I love about this book (and the other) is also my one complaint. She has found the magic potion for a perfect romantic suspense. And maybe I wouldn't be saying this, if I had finished the other series, before starting this. I also know my opinion is so limited having only read two out of her incredibly extensive backlist. BUT the two I have read, feel very similar to each other, So much so that I look back now, a week after reading Whispers of You and I am getting them confused in my head. Thats not to say I didn't LOVE both books, because I absolutely did. This just felt like a plug and play equation to perfection with changing the details around. That being said this book grabs you from the prologue and doesn't give your heart a break until the very end. Holt and Wrens story is heartbreaking, I do wish we would have gotten a glimpse of the good before the bad, more often through the book to further the draw between them. But that's not because I feel like its lacking, its more that I loved the love these two had for each other and I would have enjoyed seeing it before either of them suffered through the tainted lenses of loss and fear. I loved the side characters and as the story progressed, I began to wonder who the culprit was, I did have one right but was dead nuts wrong on the other so both my mind was blown, and my heart was broken at the same time when I found out. Catherine Cowles keeps your heart in a vice the entire story and I love her for that. I am new to romantic suspense but am prone to panic attacks (HA) so, I find that her writing is just enough and not too much for me to read without sending me in to a tizzy. Overall though I do love this book, and I look forward to Echos of you and the second one in Tattered and Torn series, I just think I might finish that series before I keep going so, I can keep them straight.

Stunning Second Chance Romance
Format: Paperback
Well, I truly began my February reading in the best way with this book. I was so excited to read it after absolutely loving the Tattered and Torn series and it DELIVERED my friends. It has all of the emotions, all of the beauty, all of the suspense I’ve come to adore in Catherine’s books turned up even just a little more. Dare I say she even turned up the spice a bit?? Phew with the heat between these two! Along with the suspense element we get served small town, an over protective hero, and the most heart melting of second chance romances. Right from the prologue this book is off and running, I was not prepared for it. You meet Wren and hear about her gorgeous love for Holt. An absolutely horrific event occurs though that we learn sends him running for 10 years, and makes her a ghost of her former self after losing him. Neither of them, especially Holt, handled the aftermath well. It made me love them more though to see the growth they go through when he comes back and they reforge their intense, soul deep connection. Both of them face a whole lot of demons. I also love that even though it was completely awful for them both to be apart, Holt leaving forces Wren to become independent and stand on her own. So their second time around, it’s an even stronger, more equal relationship. If you follow my feed closely, you also know that I am always gone for a found family dynamic, and we have that here in spades with the way the Hartleys watch out for Wren. Her relationship with Holt’s parents and siblings is just gorgeous. The way Holt heals his relationship with them all is wonderful too. I’m already deeply in love with Nash and cannot WAIT for his book next. Yes to a new family saga series, please and thank you!!! I can’t recommend this one enough.
