What is the evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit? Is it the fruit of the Spirit? Is it an emotional manifestation? Is the evidence speaking in tongues or praying in a “heavenly language?” Is the Holy Spirit at work in the church today with spiritual gifts or did authentic spiritual gifts disappear with the apostolic era?

Well, where is truth found? The battle lines are drawn and the gunfire is heavy! The truth is to be found in a careful and prayerful study of God’s word. Traditions, denominational distinctives, historic positions, and the like must become secondary in our thinking, and what the Bible teaches about the Holy Spirit must be primary. Suppose all of us―Reformed, Wesleyan, Pentecostal, and Charismatic―declare a truce! Suppose we cease our war of words, our clashing of opinions, and our doctrinal strife! Suppose in this book we simply search to find out what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit, and then, if we still cannot reach full agreement―at least let us stop unchristianizing one another and ask the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of truth) to guide us into all truth.
