The extendable collar is deigned to go up around most tall bottles or whatever you need to carry. The mesh front slip pocket is for your slim objects you want to keep handy, such as gel shots, water bottle fuel packets, and spare change. The mesh is just see-through enough so you can see what it there and grab it and go.
The Canteen feed bag comes with 2 Velcro straps that allow you to mount your feed bag on the right or left side of the handlebar stem. Where the Velcro straps slip through is also lined with Velcro to hold the strap in place, so no shifting around as you go. If you purchase 2 of the bags, you can mount them on either side.
The lower fork attachment strap is to prevent the bag form swinging forward and back when there is weight in the bag, and if you have something tight in there, such as a water bottle, having the bottom of the bag securely fastened to the bike holds everything in place.
