Accepted as one of 300 from over 10,000 entries to New York’s prestigious American Watercolor Exhibit in 1976, “Vanishing Nickel Coke” was my first painting of brick wall signs, now a trademark for me. Interestingly, I discovered this sign on a wall in my hometown of Kirksville, Missouri, — a wall I had passed by many times only two blocks from my house. One day, however, when I actually “saw” the wall and all of its complexity, it became a very challenging subject and led to many, many brick walls in my future art.
