That time is the period between the two World Wars, and Barnes' novel unfolds in the decadent shadows of Europe's great cities, Paris, Berlin, and Vienna--a world in which the boundaries of class, religion, and sexuality are bold but surprisingly porous.The outsized characters who inhabit this world are some of the most memorable in all of fiction--there is Guido Volkbein, the Wandering Jew and son of a self-proclaimed baron; Robin Vote, the American expatriate who marries him and then engages in a series of affairs, first with Nora Flood and then with Jenny Petherbridge, driving all of her lovers to distraction with her passion for wandering alone in the night; and there is Dr. Matthew-Mighty-Grain-of-Salt-Dante-O'Connor, a transvestite and ostensible gynecologist, whose digressive speeches brim with fury, keen insights, and surprising allusions. Barnes' depiction of these characters and their relationships (Nora says, "A man is another persona woman is yourself, caught as you turn in panic; on her mouth you kiss your own") has made the novel a landmark of feminist and lesbian literature.
Most striking of all is Barnes' unparalleled stylistic innovation, which led T. S. Eliot to proclaim the book "so good a novel that only sensibilities trained on poetry can wholly appreciate it." Now with a new preface by Jeanette Winterson, Nightwood still crackles with the same electric charge it had on its first publication in 1936.

Most durable one yet and it lights up. Our dog loves it.
Our dog destroys every other ball we've tried but this brand. I like the upgrade of being able to recharge it. She's a whole different dog when it's lit up. We're on her 4th one now and so far she hasn't torn any of them up. The ones with that were AA batteries always shorted out.

Best disco ball!
Had the old version of these balls that had batteries you actually replaced. This one is much better because you plug it in. My dog always loved this ball, because it's soft enough that she can take it in her mouth. And I love the color change. I got one for my daughter and her dog too, because I knew he loved them too.

Issues still persist even with the new rechargable version.
Nite Ize just can't get this figured out. This ball is by far my dogs favorite ball. We play ball daily, and when we don't get in a ball session during the day, we pull one of these out after dark. The problem persists even on the new rechargeable design. They just don't last. With the old battery operated version we just knew we would spend the 25 or so dollars each month to purchase a new one as the light mechanism would fail. When they updated to the rechargeable version I was ecstatic to try it. I bought one and it lasted an entire month before we lost it over a fence. I purchased a replacement thinking that Nite Ize finally figured out the design. I was wrong, this one lasted for about 6 or 7 evenings of ball fetching and stopped working. Just a disappointment that they can't get this issue solved.

Doggy and Daddy like the pretty lights
My dog loves this ball! So do his friends. He's not much of a ball guy during the day, but loses his mind with this ball. And I like it because the pretty changy colors agree with my edibles. Very durable and the charge seems to last at least five hours.
