"A graceful, attentive, and beautiful debut." -- George Saunders For fans of Meg Wolitzer and Maggie Shipstead: a sweeping debut novel following an American artist who returns to Germany--where she fell in love and had a child decades earlier--to confront her past at her former mother-in-law's funeral It's 1971 when Louise leaves Oregon for D sseldorf, a city grappling with its nation's horrific recent history, to study art. Soon she's embroiled in a scene dramatically different from the one at home, thanks in large part to Dieter, a mercurial musician. Their romance ignites quickly, but life gets in the way: an unplanned pregnancy, hasty marriage, the tense balance of their creative ambitions, and--finally, fatally--a family secret that shatters Dieter, and drives Louise home. But in 2008 she's headed to Dieter's mother's funeral. She never returned to Germany, and has since remarried, had another daughter, and built a life in Oregon. As she flies into the heart of her past, she reckons with the choices she made, and the ones she didn't, just as her family--current and former--must consider how Louise's life has shaped their own, for better and for worse. Exquisitely balanced, expansive yet wonderfully intimate, Lifelines explores the indelible ties of family; the shape art, history, and nationality give to our lives; and the ways in which we are forever evolving, with each step we take, with each turn of the Earth.Binding Type: Paperback

Entertains my husky!
After some research, I decided on this interactive toy for my young husky. I chose it over others because I liked that it was wrapped in a silicone cover so it wouldn't be as hard on her teeth, or my floors. It also seems to have helped with durability. She's never had this sort of automated toy before to engage with and it surprised her at first, but then she really got into it: pawing and nosing and sometimes howling at it. I was worried it would drive her and/or me crazy, but so far so good. She will play with it for a good 10 minutes at a time and it seems to provide some good mental stimulation since it rolls and spins unpredictably. It is easy to charge and was ready to use right out of the box. It has proved durable in the first week surviving my crazy pup and multiple trips down the stairs. I am also happy to report that it has worked pretty well on the carpet/rug areas of the home. It should work pretty well unless you have a very thick shag carpet. We'll see how long it lasts, but highly recommend so far.

Did not last
Color: Orange
Disapointing, thought toy would last longer. Lucy is a very small puppy. I recharged about five times, then toy would not recharge... it died.

Not good for heavy chewers.
Color: Orange
Granted, my dog is very big. 95 lbs, however the ball was advertised as good for large dogs. The first day of play, he chewed the outer covering off. The ball still works fine, so if it doesn’t matter if it keeps the outer covering in tack, it will be fine.

Boredom Buster
Color: Green
This ball has been a boredom buster lifesaver. On the first day my 15 week golden retriever puppy played with it for a good 2 hours straight. I was nervous he would immediately get bored with it but nope, he searches for it every day. It has helped with his puppy teething, he's more likely to play with this ball than come up and use my hand/arm/clothes to teethe on. The battery lasts a good amount of time and is quick to charge but I did wish it lasted a bit longer. Overall I'm very happy. We live in a top floor apartment but the noise doesn't seem to be too bad for the neighbors. It's good quality and seems durable.
Edit: The velcro for the sleeve wears out within a couple uses. It keeps falling off. It was my puppies FAV thing about the toy because of the pull tag thing. So now it's ineffective for him. Not sure if there's a way to get a new sleeve or not.
