Care

General Maintenance: Repot roughly once a year. If rootbound, repot into a pot one size larger. If not rootbound, repot in the same pot but change out the first few inches of soil to replenish nutrients for the plant.  Rotate pot every 1-2 weeks to encourage even growth on all sides.

Temperature: Keep within 18°C - 26°C. Temperatures that are too hot will cause it to dry out and burn, whereas temperatures that are too cold will cause this plant to drop its leaves.

Light: Very bright light. For best growth, keep outside in full sun for the summer months, and under a grow light during the dormancy period.

Watering: Water generously when the soil surface is dry, but do not allow to sit in water or it will cause root rot. Be careful of overwatering. Bottom watering can be beneficial.

Soil: Well draining soil is essential to avoid potential root rot, but the soil should still retain moisture. A peat-based soil mix with added perlite would work well.

Fertilizer: Solid organic fertilizer works well for the Fukien Tea Bonsai due to its sensitive roots. Liquid fertilizers can also be used in carefully measured dosage and only on moist soil. Feed the tree well from spring to autumn, and less often during winter.
