Srila Sanatana Gosvami, the elder brother of Srila Rupa Gosvami, was a chief minister in the government of Hussain Shah, the ruler of Bengal, and he was considered the jeweled ornament of that assembly. He possessed all the riches of a royal position, but abandoned it all in order to accept the youthful goddess of renunciation. Externally he wore the dress of an avadhuta, a mendicant beyond all social norms, but internally his heart was fully satisfied by bhakti-rasa. Thus he can be compared to a deep lake covered by algae, in other words, hidden within him was the treasure of Caitanya Mahaprabhu's moods. He was thus the object of pleasure for all the devotees.

As soon as Sanatana Gosvami arrived before Sri Caitanya, the Lord, seeing him, became supremely kind to him. Mahaprabhu, whose complexion is of a golden campaka flower, embraced him with great affection.

In the course of time, the transcendental topics of Krsna's Vrndavana pastimes were almost lost. To broadcast those pastimes, Caitanya Mahaprabhu empowered Rupa Gosvami and Sanatana Gosvami by sprinkling them with the nectar of His mercy.

Sanatana Gosvami opened the storehouse of bhakti-rasa which is laced with renunciation. If one desires to relish the transcendental nectar of devotion, then Sanatana Gosvami should be eternally remembered. Srila Sanatana Gosvami, who is the abode of divine qualities, manifested Sri Radha Madana-mohanajiu, the Lordships presiding over spiritual relationship in Vrndavana-dhama.
