Jarvis is a very smart and stylish cockatiel, and with his wire feet and tail, he’s very poseable, so he’ll be happy to hop up on a perch in your home, or up on your hand for a bit of a fuss.

Jarvis may look a little trickier than some of the other birds that I’ve designed, but don’t worry - he’s still very simple to knit! There’s no knitting in the round and full instructions are given to help you make him up.

Each bird knitting kit is carefully handmade and packed by me, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cuddly cockatiel friend – No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces. 

If you'd like to add needles to your kit, a pair of high quality 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2.50, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.50. Please note that you will also need a 3.5mm crochet hook (or similar size) to attach the lovely crest feathers to his head.  (There’s no crochet involved, you’re simply using the needle to pull the yarn through the knitted material). You can add a 3.5mm Pony aluminium crochet hook to your kit box for £1.50.

Is Jarvis suitable for beginners?

Yes, he is. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. Because of his wire feet, and crest, he’s slightly more of a challenge to sew up and complete than some of the simpler birds, but full instructions are included.

Basic knitting skills that you’ll need to know:

Stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. Head on over to my how to knit tutorials if you need any advice!
