Oetken 32" Heart Gong (#UWO813)
Broder Oetken, a Paiste-trained gongmaster, in his 32" Heart Gong, has made a unique gong mirroring the beats and blood flows of the human heart. When struck in the center, the gong resonates deeply, the initial moment representing the beat of the heart, and the subsequent residual vibrations bringing you the blood rushing through arteries and veins. The sound of this gong, compared to a regular symphonic gong, is much deeper and yet also faster opening.
While it is possible to have two different heart gongs tuned to the same frequency, that is not the goal of Broder with the Heart Gong and usually the fundamental tones are unique. The focus of this gong was not a specific note but the sound characteristic, the inspiration of the living heart.
This is similar to how the Paiste Sound Creation Gongs of yesteryear were developed. All Oetken's gongs are made from NS12 (nickel silver), also called Alpaka, a metal used in German gong making. This is the same metal and from the same sources that Paiste uses to create their high-quality gongs. It is chosen due to its wide-ranging sound and potency.
