The Portuguese guitar is a kind of weird instrument. It has a teardrop shaped body, twelve strings, an odd tuning scheme, and is generally associated with the mournful Portuguese musical style called fado. It's not often used as an improv instrument, especially in avant-garde settings, but that was before Victor Herrero got his hands on one. Probably best known for his work with Josephine Foster, Victor is a Spanish guitarist and composer, whose work ranges from very traditional to beyond contemporary. On a trip to Lisbon a decade or so ago, he and Ms. Foster became enthralled by the glittering tone qualities of the Portuguese guitar, and decided to go halves on one. A lot of wood-shedding and investigating various musical forms ensued, as the guitar traveled around Spain and then the rest of the world with the pair. It was used as part of a show with Keiji Haino in Japan. It figured into a recording session with some of the Master Musicians Of Jojouka. It was noted performing duets with saxophonist Sonny Simmons. And so on. Removed from it's parochial context, the instrument showed itself to be an incredibly limber and adaptable axe. Astrolabio is an album of solo compositions and improvisations for Portuguese guitar that defies easy classification. It's tone is so bright and folky it almost sounds like a hammered dulcimer in spots, but Jean Ritchie would probably keel over if she heard this record. At times, Victor's playing emphasizes the ethereal beauty of the strings' natural vibrations, but he can also create insane rafts of sound with Northern African rhythms crossing swords with chunks of string sound as mysteriously fried as anything ever done by Loren Connors. The Amazing, Original View of Sex, Marriage and Romance.

Two words: So. Good.
I hadn't read anything by John Mark Comer before, but now I'm definitely looking at reading his other books. The depth, honesty, intensity and openness of Loveology really makes it a great tool for getting God's perspective on some of the most important topics in life. So good. As a young man (not even in my twenties yet), this was a great, consuming, eye-opening book that I'm so grateful God allowed me to read. I saw a video for it on Jefferson Bethke's YouTube channel and knew from that moment that I needed to read it. Although it took a few months, I finally ordered the book and got in the mail a few days later. The information and perspective this book both gave me and enforced are priceless.
If you're a young man (or "teenager), and a Christian one a that, you NEED to read this book. If you're a young woman (or "teenager"), and a Christian one at that, you also NEED to read this book. As the younger generation, this is stuff we need to get. We have our entire lives ahead of us, and the more things we do God's way the first time around, the more He can do through us and for us as we continue down our path for life. Sexuality, marriage, romance, and God's place in all of this has been so freaking warped and twisted in our spiraling American culture. We need God's truth on this topic like *crazy.* Everyone does, but especially Christian youth. God has amazing things for us to do, but we can't do those things if we have bad relationships, wrong views of sex or warped ideas of marriage standing in the way. And while this book is definitely not the only way for us to get this truth, it is an extremely good start.

A great dive into "love"
Format: Hardcover
A perhaps too easy-to-read book with an interesting perspective on the concept of love, sex, and romantic relationships. It provided for me a mostly pleasant confrontation with my beliefs about love. Props to the author for the ballsy somewhat "counter-cultural" content. Good read for all interested in the idea of love, regardless of one's belief.

MUST READ - Biblical Perspective of Sex and Relationships, Great Book For Late Teens
Format: Hardcover
This book gives a right on Biblical perspective of dating, relationships, sex and more. Every Christian parent should buy this for their older teenage kids. I bought this book for my 18 year old daughter. She took it to school and found out that several of her friends had heard about the author and were also reading it. Her boyfriend is reading it now too. The Q&A portion at the end of the book is so good.
