This book details the events and the men and women involved, including Finnish prisoners of war held in Britain during the Crimean War, the British-raised Finnish Legion of 1919, the British volunteers who went to Finland in 1940 to join the Finnish Army, the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, the London Fire Volunteers, the Friends Ambulance Unit and the British soldiers and airmen who were sent to aid the Finns.
The book covers the Fleet Air Arm raid on Petsamo and two planned raids into northern Finland, including a "bouncing-bomb" attack on a Finnish dam.
In the lead-up to the Winter War, many parallels can be identified between the Soviet attack on Finland and the Russian attack on Ukraine.
