Tarawangsawelas is a musical duo from Bandung, mainly performing a contemporary version of Tarawangsa, the sacred music from Sundanese West Java. Here they are joined by their teacher and maestro, Pak Pupung Supena, together with, Pak Jaja, on "Sekalipun". Wanci is a minimalist, cosmic album composed with a careful modern interpretation of one of the most mystical and spiritual genres in Indonesia. A gorgeous and infectious six track album. Producer Rabih Beaini says "Last year, Europalia Festival commissioned me to work on a musical project with local musicians from Indonesia and develop a performance to tour during Europalia 2017. I chose to work with Tarawangsa, the sacred music from Sundanese West Java. Tarawangsa is played on two string instruments: a rababa-like two-stringed bowed instrument itself called Tarawangsa, and the jentreng, a seven-stringed kecapi-like instrument. Typically from Rancakalong village in Sumedang, West Java, Tarawangsa is played as part of a ritual consisting of almost eight hours of music and dance, complete with offerings and prayers. During a performance, a selection from the forty two known Tarawangsa pieces slowly build up from a cosmic slow groove to more repetitive and hypnotic rhythms, inevitably bringing the listener and dancer to a trance state. During the residency I had the great honor to be able to develop new structures and pieces together with Tarawangsawelas, recording them in Bandung, and ultimately having them joined by their teacher and Tarawangsa maestro Pak Pupung Supena together with Pak Jaja on jentreng. This album is a modern description for one of the local Indonesian music scene, but mainly it is an offering for the Tarawangsa ritual, like the food and incense and the prayers, and the messages of the ancestors to the people of Rancakalong." Composed and performed by Teguh Permana, Wisnu Ridwana, and Rabih Beaini, except "Sekalipun" (traditional) performed by Pupung Supena, Jaja Rohmat, Teguh Permana, and Wisnu Ridwana. Recorded in Bandung, March 2017. Produced, mixed, and arranged by Rabih Beaini. Mastered by Neel at Enisslab. Cover design by George Sowden, curated by M-L-XL.

Very comfortable Slippers. Great buy!

I bought these to replace a pair of slippers that I have had for years that are very similar to the slippers I bought, but I had worn a hole in the leather on mine, so I had to find something new and similar. These slippers are worth the money they are very comfortable, and I am sure they will last for years. They are a little tight around the ankle cuff but they are still new and I am sure they will wear in a little more when I start wearing them more.

Great slippers but disappointing quality.

Extremely comfortable, attractive slippers but the stitching came loose on both leather trim areas almost immediately. I tried to sew/glue down the stitching (as seen in photo) but it kept unraveling. Disappointing as these slippers are great in every other way (though they do run a bit big...I wear a 9 but ended up with a 7.5-8.5 which fits with a bit of room to spare even with thick socks). I just hope they hold up after my latest attempt to stop the thread from pulling out any more as I do really love wearing them.
Perhaps I just got a bum pair?

Tight at first, but they stretch after a short time...feel perfect after the first week!

I love them!
My first impression was "oooh, this is too tight". I wear a size 10 shoe and honestly, the 9.5-10.5 felt tight when I first tried it. Without socks it felt okay, with socks my toes were right at the top. But I loved the style so much I decided to give it a chance - I am SO glad I did!!!
They do stretch and give, so don't expect it to be tight forever. I have had them a week or so, wearing each day (I WFH) and they feel really nice. I also live in the mountains, we just had our first winter storm, and these slippers are nice and toasty. Exactly what I needed.
The memory foam is plush, though I have had other slippers with it and I know it will squash down over time. Right now, it is a nice feeling as I walk around the house. They are super cute looking, wearing leggings allows me to feel like I am stylish even while still wearing my sleep thermals. YAY!

favorite slipper ever

I love these slippers. They look great with pants tucked in. Incredibly warm and comfortable. I wear them almost every day. Fit is true to size. They stay up but are not tight at all. On top of that I get compliments on them. Highly recommend.

Favorite Slippers Of All Time
Size: 6.5-7.5, Color: Charcoal Faux Fur
ETA 7/2024: So I ended up buying a size 5-6. They fit better around the top and sides of my foot but the sole is a bit small. The 6.5-7.5 sole fits better but the material around the top and sides is roomy so it bunches up. Sigh. I still love these slippers but the fit is frustrating.
I'm obsessed with these slipper boots! They are so cute and comfy.
They look especially good with leggings but I also like that I can tuck other types of pajama pants into them. I'm short and have to fold the waist of most pajama pants so they're not super long on me, but with these boot slippers on I don't have to worry about my pant bottoms dragging on the floor since I can just tuck them in.
I like that they have rubber soles. I love the look of the faux fur but not sure how easy they will be to wash because of it.
I wear a 7 or 7.5 and I got the 6.5-7.5 size. Even with thick socks on they are roomy. Because they are house shoes it doesn't matter much but I probably could've sized down.
I like the way they look so much I might buy a size down and use that pair for wearing outside of my house.
Some other reviews said they have a strong smell but mine did not.
