I've come to realize that 'Don't Answer Me', by The Alan Parsons Project, is one of those rare songs that works equally well as a sad song or a happy song, much like Louis Armstrong's 'It's A Wonderful Life'. In my books -- in my mind -- they're both sad. I love 'Don't Answer Me', but I'd always thought it was terribly sad! Only through the glories? of the internet have I come to realize that some (many?) people think it's a happy song, and this presents one of the great unsolved mysteries of musical semiotics. It's the ultimate in polysemy, and you can tell your friends I said so. This song has a famous music video, and I must confess to you: I went back and watched it when I was doing this poster, with gleeful anticipation, and found it sucks. Sorry not sorry! Crappy animation, stupid storyline: what the hell? Not what I remembered AT. ALL. Damn, nostalgia is weird.
