By: Milton Viorst | Series: Modern Library ChroniclesAmerica’s engagement with the Arab world stretches back far beyond the Iraq wars. According to Milton Viorst, the current conflict is simply the latest round in a 1,400-year struggle between Christianity and Islam, in which the United States became a participant only in the last century.
Today, the Bush Doctrine aims to free the Arab peoples from political oppression and create a democratic Iraq. So why are Arabs, and Iraqis in particular, so suspicious of our efforts? The explanation, Viorst says, is simple: “What the American leadership has miscalculated, or simply dismissed, is Arab nationalism.” In Storm from the East, Viorst offers a balanced, lucid, and vital history of America’s uneasy relationship with the Arab world and argues that brutal conflict in the region will continue until the West, with the United States taking the lead, honors the Arabs’ insistence on deciding their own destiny.
Viorst examines the long struggle of the Arab world to overthrow Western hegemony. He explores the Arab experiences with democracy and military despotism; Nasserite socialism in Egypt and Ba’athism in Syria and Iraq; tribal monarchy in Saudi Arabia and Jordan; guerrilla warfare waged by the Palestinians; and, finally, Islamic rebellion culminating in Osama bin Laden’s extremist al-Qaeda. All have the same goal: the liberation of the Arabs from foreign domination.
Storm from the East is a powerful work that, like no other, limns the political, religious, and social roots of Arab nationalism and the present-day unrest in the Middle East.

A precious book for all ages.
Format: Hardcover
I just received this beautiful book and like all of Sharon Garlough Brown’s books it touched my heart. I know and love Wren as an adult from Sharon’s novels. The artist captures young Wren perfectly. When I say this book is for all ages I found the message to be a personal blessing as I travel a season of some tough feelings. I was also reminded how important my role of Grandmother is, Please Dear Lord give me a heart like Gram’s. “Not Finished Yet” will now always be sitting out on a table in my home as a daily reassurance of God’s love of all my feelings and to provide beautiful words and artwork to share with others.

Lovely book with great illustrations. Easy reading. Would be very good to read to children especially when they might be having a difficult time understanding an issue.

A children's book that adults will love
Format: Hardcover
I bought this for my granddaughter's birthday but when I read it myself, it so resonated with my own childhood story, I know God used it to heal some of my own wounds. I can't wait to give it to my
granddaughter.

Engaging, well researched, well written and easy to understand!
Format: Kindle
This is the first time I have read a book of David Jeremiah. I think I have seen him preach on Television at my parent's place when I was on holidays one Sunday morning.
This is a very well researched book, that is easy to read, and not too complicated to follow. It is not dry or overly theological like some books tend to be and I have found what I have read so far to be very engaging and the book is a real page turner.
I love the subject of Revelations and I find that many of the people who write a lot of them have really differing ideas and a lot of opinion. It is refreshing to see an author do a lot of research and find an amazing amount of quotes to back up what he is saying, yet at the same time be engaging and not dry.
I find that at 20% of a book read, that I have already decided whether to shelve a book, or to continue reading in a second session and this will be a book that I read right to its end. As a write myself, I am so impressed with the simplicity of the authors writing, and the subjects that he covers extensively, and yet dare I say it again in an engaging way that is not dry at all.
The way he opens each topic up and uses stories, Bible verses and quotes to back up everything he says is the skill of a master communicator.
I recommend this book to you
