The Leghorn Cottage – The Perfect Chicken Coop for 4 Chickens

Our Leghorn Cottage is a perfect starter coop for up to 3 large breed chickens or 4 small breed chickens, measuring 76" long x 31.5" wide.

Eggcellent for your small backyard flock! Capacity depends on breed size, whether your chickens free range, and how much time they spend in the coop vs. outdoors. We recommend looking at the measurements and seeing what works for your flock. Keep in mind the chickens share nesting boxes and stand side by side on the roosting rods!

This strong, high-quality backyard chicken coop for up to 4 chickens allows you to take comfort that your girls are safe from harmful predators. Providing comfort, room, and an invitation for fresh egg production, this coop serves wonderfully for your backyard chickens, ducks, quail, or pheasant.

It is made from non-splintering fir timber and is painted with a water-based primer coat. Many families have painted their coop to match their home and you certainly can!  We recommend putting a layer of lacquer, paint, or stain on it once it's set up as the wood will be settling in place you'll want to put that coating on at the beginning and whenever you feel it needs it in the future!

The hen house door slides open and closes using a metal handle (this allows you to secure your hens at night very easily). There is 15 inches of clearance under the chicken house which provides additional coop space for the hens to roam.

One of the things you will notice about the original Leghorn Cottage chicken coop is that the chicken run extends under the nesting box. MANY other chicken coops that are being sold online do not have any support under their nesting boxes. Without support, the nesting boxes will start to sag within a VERY short period of time.

We also have a heavy plastic flashing that goes above the nest box roof panel. Each roof panel has a hard plastic lining to further insulate and weatherproof the coop! Our chicken coops for up to 4 chickens are SOLID and well-built! But since it's a wooden chicken coop and will be outside 24/7 we again, STRONGLY recommend that you stain, lacquer or paint your coop.

The stain applied is a base coat that is not designed to protect your coop long-term from the elements.  Often in transit parts can get dinged or scratched etc. You may need to touch up your coop before staining or painting it! Once set up we recommend anchoring it down, this can be as simple as a stake on each side of the hen house and enclosed run area.

Each piece is labeled and the instructions were written by us =) We are here and happy to assist in any way that we can. There are a ton of coops out there but VERY few that are thought out to the extent the Leghorn Cottage up to 4 chicken coop with a run has been and even fewer that are built as well as the Leghorn Cottage is built! It will arrive in two boxes! You will need a power screw driver and an hour. We pre-drill the holes for you. In addition, all of the heavy gauge wire is preinstalled on the panels, etc. You will be pleasantly surprised by how easy it will be to assemble!

  • Top Quality Construction: heavy gauge hardware, wire mesh, flashing above nesting boxes, heavy sliding poop tray, acrylic sliding window, support under nesting boxes!
  • Well-Engineered: VERY SOLID with support under the nesting box, and diagonal wood supports on all panels.
  • A lot of space: 76” long x 31.5″wide, 2 roosting rods, 15 inches of clearance under the hen house, etc. (Note the roof makes it 34" wide)
  • Easy to Assemble: EACH piece is labeled, we write our own instructions, and we pre-drill holes!
  • 3 entrance doors to the run making easy access to the floor space under the hen house. This allows for easy cleaning and for letting the girls in and out when free-ranging.

Final Suggestions:

Since they are made of wood and will be outside 24/7, we STRONGLY recommend that you stain, lacquer, or paint your chicken coop for up to 4 chickens. The stain applied is a base coat that is not designed to protect your coop long-term from the elements. Often in transit parts can get dinged or scratched etc. You may need to touch up your coop before staining or painting it! Once set up we recommend anchoring it down, this can be as simple as a stake on each side of the hen house and run area. As much as we have tried to predator-proof our coops, you know your area best and you may want to put chicken wire around your coop, or put pavers. You'll always want to double-check hardware and latches to make sure everything is tight and secure. For larger predators like bears, you will want to look at installing an electric fence around the perimeter.

If you only buy one technical computer book, this is it
Format: Paperback
Disclaimer: I owned the first edition for years and read it a dozen times, mainly for pleasure since it’s not only informative but also just enjoyable to read. I’m a professional software architect and have dozens of textbooks on computer science and engineering so I’ve been around the block. This is the kind of book I would buy all for all my friends (if I had more than a couple) and family members (if they were even slightly into computers, which they aren’t sadly). Petzold does an exceptional job at describing digital logic and guides you through building a conceptual CPU from very first principles. I think his bottom up approach is the way to go and has helped me understand complex topics in an extremely simple way. When I’m not reading fiction, this is my go to bedtime reading. The second edition has about 100 more pages than the first and some content has been completely reworked and it’s great. If you ever had even a passing interest in knowing how computers work at a very fundamental level, get this book!

First programmer?
Format: Paperback
As an ardent reader of the past 1st edition, I was fairly excited to get the latest version. That is, until I encountered the history chapter of the new edition. For one thing, what I do NOT understand in this second edition is the newly added description of August Ada Byron (countless of Lovelace). The author claims it was Babbage who was the first programmer to design the engines, not Ada. I am not trying to start a futile argument here about who has more or fewer contributions, etc. What I am trying to assert here is that it is undisputed that Ada (unless the new evidence arises) left *the very first demonstration* of what this seemingly imaginary machine, which didn't even physically exist, was capable of through her program. Because Babbage designed the engine itself, that doesn't automatically put him in the position of a programmer (despite Babbage being a brilliant engineer/scientist and may have had a simple or detailed program in his mind). However, it was Ada who gave a definite touch to programming concepts that ultimately led to modern-day programming. Ada deserves more recognition than a mere "tutorial writer," and she is certainly entitled to the title she deserves. Other than that, like the previous edition, this book is a must-read for people who are from related/unrelated fields. I always loved the 1st edition, and I would do too with the 2nd. Still, I think history should always be approached with more care, particularly if matters have potential controversies.

One of the few books worth your time
Format: Paperback
If you want to learn computers, start here. Learning from a historical perspective removes complexity of trying to start with say GPUs - you learn just like computer engineers did, incrementally.

An absolutely brilliant book
Format: Paperback
This is an amazing book for the right kind of reader. It's a lot like Euclid's Elements but for computers as it leads the reader through designing a computer from first principles and builds to the point of creating software and adding peripherals. It's an amazingly clear but slightly challenging read. I have given this book as a gift many many times. It's an absolute classic in my opinion.

Great introduction to Godot 4
Format: Kindle
I've been writing various types of software for 10 years and was interested in learning Godot for 2D games. This book turned out to be informative and easy to follow and gave me the knowledge I was seeking. I learn best by example, and this project focused book was excellent in that regard. If you have zero programming experience, I would recommend learning something like Python before diving into this book. The book teaches with GDScript, which is Godot's Python-like programming language. There are some minor mistakes in the book, but an errata is currently being kept up-to-date on the github repository for the book. I opened a few issues for things I discovered, and the author added those things to the errata. Keep this in mind if you end up getting stuck on something and are 100% sure you followed the directions in the book. I use Unreal for 3D games, so I have not yet gone through the chapters of this book for 3D games. I wouldn't expect a drastic drop in quality, but for the purposes of this review I can't give any insight on the 3D chapters.
