Performed and mixed by Steve in front of a hometown audience, with no later overdubs or edits, this astounding album transcends what a live concert could be.
From electronic space music to deep reflective multi-dimensional sequencers to dreamtime material, we move through subtle, microscopic levels of reality where all forms are experienced as sound, a dynamic born from what Steve describes as the "soundcurrent" which crosses many styles, atmospheres, and moods. A remarkable gift for melody is showcased by the driving sequencer patterns that gain power through repetition; natural sounds dissolve the boundaries between the performance space and the surrounding landscape, with coyote howls and bird calls making the album shimmer. On the new "Born of Darkness," Steve plays the fujara - a six-foot overtone flute - producing snarling sparks of sonic lightning; and on "Songlines" (from 1988's seminal Dreamtime Return), he delivers an ecstatic digeridoo performance demonstrating that the soundcurrent flows just as easily through the breath as through an electronic circuit.
