OBSERVER CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE MONTH

Discover the award-winning true story of one girl's journey growing up autistic and undiagnosed – a must-read book about autism, neurodiversity and embracing who you are - for kids and adults alike. If you've ever felt different, out of place, like you don't fit in - this book is for you.

'This book is what I needed as a kid! Empathetic, joyful and beautifully authentic.' - Elle McNicoll, author of A Kind of Spark

'I REALLY love it. It's the book I wish I'd had when I was a kid. Buy it for your kids, your parents, your grandparents. Mostly buy it for yourself' - Holly Smale, author of the Geek Girl Series

‘Honest, real and downright brilliant’ - Louise Gooding, author of Wonderfully Wired Brains

Hi! My name is Abigail and I’m autistic.

But when I was a child I didn’t know I was autistic. In fact - it wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I discovered my neurodivergence and my life finally started to make sense.

This book follows my journey of self discovery from childhood through adulthood, as I attempt to navigate the confusing world around me - a world predominantly built for neurotypical brains.

In this book you’ll find:

VERY IMPORTANT FACTS about neurodiversity, neurodivergence, autistic traits, autism and gender, sensory sensitivities, social communication, emotions, friendships, bullying, sensory overload, meltdowns, family, school, special interests, masking, puberty AND MORE

VERY PERSONAL STORIES involving toilets, cats, poo, swimming pools, my ridiculous family, my slightly unusual way of trying to make friends, falling up the French stairs wearing a skirt, getting locked in a cinema overnight and MORE embarrassing (and often hilarious) moments like these…

PLUS TIPS for supporting the neurodivergent people in your life, advocating for your own needs as a neurodivergent person, and learning to embrace what makes you different.

It’s for children. It’s for adults. It’s for neurodivergent people. It’s for neurotypical people. It’s for parents, carers, siblings, teachers, librarians, psychiatrists, doctors, nurses - and everyone else too.

Basically - it’s for you.

EXTRA IMPORTANT AND LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
A Different Sort of Normal is also indirectly a story about growing up as an auDHD person - because nearly a year after this book was published I received my ADHD diagnosis!

‘My 9yr old has read this cover to cover so many times but I’d recommend it for a huge age range including adults too…This book was our favourite and most useful purchase post diagnosis. It is written with such care, kindness and good humour about many of the insights into autistic life that would never feature in the DSM.’ - ****** Reader Review

‘Although I don’t have Autism, I do have ADHD. If you are familiar with ADHD, you may or may not know that a lot of ADHD symptoms overlap with autism. I instantly felt a connection with Abigail, her brain ticks like mine, and it’s fantastic! … I wish little me who struggled growing up, had this book to read. I instantly felt like someone else understands me without having to say anything’ ****** Reader Review

GOOD
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
This wash is excellent. It provides powerful cleansing, helps reduce acne effectively, and leaves the skin feeling fresh. The foaming formula is easy to use and works quickly without being overly harsh. Overall, a very good product and highly recommended for acne-prone skin.

Clears breakout without playing around
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
This face wash means business. It lathers up nicely and you can actually feel it working on your skin. After a few uses, my breakouts looked calmer and less angry, and my skin felt way cleaner overall. It can be a little drying if you overdo it, so moisturizer is a must, but if you’re dealing with stubborn acne, this one gets straight to the point. No fluff, just results.

Gave me hope again for my back acne
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I’ve been struggling with acne on my back since I was a teen and I’m now in my 30s and still struggling. I had taken accutane (several times) and it was the only thing that has cleared me but it always came back. I decided that I’m not gonna risk potentially hurting myself over that medication again and consistently (no matter if I didn’t feel like it!) started washing my back with this every night (even if I didn’t wash my hair). I would leave it on for at least 5 minutes and then rinse it off, then moisturize. After a month this has been the CLOSEST to clear my skin has ever gotten besides accutane. I’ve tried virtually everything. I was honestly surprised, and although it’s not perfectly clear, it’s made a significantttttt difference. It’s worth a try if you plan to be serious about it. I wish I would have taken a before picture, I just didn’t have high expectations at first!!

Can do wonders but also can completely strip your healthy skin barrier
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Awesome product ONLY IF YOU HAVE SEVERE BREAKOUTS AND OILY SKIN. STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE SLIGHTLY DRY SKIN AND/OR MINOR BREAKOUTS- not worth the risk. I used it for back acne and it really helped. DO NOT MIX WITH OTHER ACNE PRODUCTS. But HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE WARNING!!!!!—— This is NOT a great play for your face or truly anyone who doesn’t have severe acne and oily skin. Yes, it eliminates acne. If your face is extremely oil and acne prone, every few days would be fine. I, myself, always thought my face was a mix of oily and dry- but I had a lot of hormonal acne from birth control. At first, I would use this every few days (every other, every 3, depending), and I noticed it improving my facial acne as well. I used it for 3+ months. THEN *TRIGGER WARNING* I suddenly one day broke out in HIVES. It completely STRIPS YOUR SKIN BARRIER IF YOU OVERUSE IT OR IF YOUR SKIN IS NOT SEVERELY BROKEN OUT. Red, swollen, bumps, all over my face for a week straight. My face burned so bad I couldn’t even cry it hurt. I couldn’t sleep good. Couldn’t touch my face. Couldn’t even put on moisturizer. Not even an ice pack helped. I had to stop hot showers and every single facial product/makeup for multiple weeks to heal my face. I noticed after I stopped using it, it almost made my acne better on my face- like it truly did strip my skin barrier. I will no longer be putting this on my face UNLESS I have severe acne breakouts, and if that is the case it would be a ONE TIME use. I also DO NOT use it everyday on my back or chest, it’s more of an every other- every few days type of deal. BE ADVISED- does the job, but can also make things worse.

This is a great product!
Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Edit: bleached a bunch of our towels so just be aware of that. I never understood that bc he obviously rinses it all off. But it’s definitely 100% what caused the bleaching. It’s still a good product. You just have to delegate certain towels for the person using it. My husband uses this in addition to Bubbles anti breakout facial cleanser. They have different types of ingredients (bubbles has salicylic acid) and work well together. This combo is working well for him. He has very oily skin on his face and head. He’s also been occasionally using a facial wipe during the day (when he thinks of it) for an extra quick cleaning. We tried several different types of cleansers and he does also sometimes use a jojoba oil cleanser before the panoxyl and bubbles. (Oil breaks down oil. Despite it sounding like it would add greasiness, it does not. Jojoba oil balances all skin types and is noncomedogenic) This product may be enough for most of you (it’s really good!) but just wanted to mention this for anyone else who struggles with really oily skin. Of note, he doesn’t ever get acne all over his face but gets an occasional medium to large oily pimple. I also have him exfoliating once a week with Glycolic acid) and using Tretinoin a couple of times a week. He’s supposed to be working up to 3-4 times a week but forgets. I’m a nurse who is wound care certified so know a lot about skin and really look at ingredients and research them. I’ve also worked for a dermatologist. However, please don’t take this as advice but a suggestion to bring up to your own dermatologist or doctor. :) I suspect when he gets up to using Tretinoin more regularly he won’t even need anything else and it will keep him from breaking out altogether. Good luck! Don’t forget sunscreen! :)
