The ATEN KA7130 SUN Legacy KVM Adapter is a dedicated bridging device designed for Sun-era workstations and servers that demand reliable, effortless access to display, keyboard, and mouse from a modern or dedicated console. This compact adapter consolidates essential legacy interfaces—RJ-45 network, 13W3 video, and mini-DIN keyboard/mouse—into a single, durable solution that preserves signal integrity while simplifying your KVM setup. Whether you’re maintaining a data center with SPARCstations, Suns or other Sun legacy hardware, or integrating vintage systems into a contemporary management workflow, the KA7130 delivers robust performance, straightforward installation, and dependable operation in demanding environments.

  • The KA7130 provides a unified, purpose-built bridge for Sun legacy systems, enabling seamless connection between Sun hosts and standard KVM consoles. Its design centers on preserving legacy signal integrity while offering a compact form factor that fits neatly into crowded equipment racks or lab benches. By supporting the specific Sun-era interfaces, this adapter reduces compatibility concerns and minimizes the need for costly adapters or multiple intermediary devices.
  • Video performance is anchored by a 13W3 male video interface, a classic standard for high-resolution Sun displays. This ensures crisp, accurate image quality from Sun workstations while maintaining compatibility with decades of Sun-era monitors and display pipelines. The 13W3 connection is known for stable voltage, impedance, and color fidelity, which translates to dependable on-screen rendering for command prompts, GUI tasks, and diagnostic routines.
  • Keyboard and mouse input routing is handled through mini-DIN connectors, designed to accommodate Sun keyboards and mice that use this legacy interface. This ensures precise, responsive control when working with Sun systems, supporting accurate cursor movement, key repeat behavior, and macro functionality that professionals rely on during servicing, development, and everyday management tasks.
  • RJ-45 network connectivity opens doors to remote management concepts and integration with networked KVM environments. While primarily a local KVM adapter, the RJ-45 port provides a pathway for remote access configurations when paired with compatible management infrastructure, allowing technicians to monitor or control Sun hosts from a console location that’s separated by distance or network topology. This networking capability adds versatility for data centers, labs, and test environments that leverage existing Ethernet infrastructure.
  • The KA7130 is built with rugged connectors and a compact footprint, making it well-suited for dense rack environments and field service scenarios. Its plug-and-play philosophy minimizes downtime: connect the Sun host to the adapter via the appropriate 13W3 video and mini-DIN cables, connect your console with standard KVM cables, and you’re ready to operate. The result is a reliable, straightforward KVM solution that reduces complexity, enhances uptime, and supports mission-critical maintenance tasks with minimal setup.

How to Install ATEN KA7130 SUN Legacy KVM Adapter

  • Identify the Sun legacy host you intend to manage and verify that it has the appropriate 13W3 video output and mini-DIN keyboard/mouse ports in use. Confirm that the console or KVM switch you plan to use supports the KA7130’s connection scheme.
  • Power down the Sun host and your console setup if required by your environment. While the KA7130 is designed for straightforward installation, following standard safety practices helps prevent data loss or hardware damage.
  • Connect the Sun host’s display output to the KA7130’s 13W3 video input using a compatible 13W3 video cable. Ensure a firm, secure connection at both ends to minimize signal loss or interference.
  • Attach the Sun keyboard and mouse to the KA7130’s mini-DIN connectors. Use matching mini-DIN cables or adapters designed for Sun-era peripherals to ensure proper key mapping and cursor behavior.
  • Link the KA7130 to your console or KVM setup with the appropriate KVM cables and, if applicable, connect the KA7130’s RJ-45 port to your network or management infrastructure. If you’re using a purely local setup, you may skip the network connection unless your deployment requires remote management capabilities.
  • Power on the Sun host and your console. Verify that the display is active, input from the keyboard and mouse is registered, and the system is reachable from the console. If necessary, adjust BIOS/firmware settings related to monitor detection, keyboard type, and serial or video configurations to optimize compatibility and performance.
  • Test routine tasks, such as boot sequences, login prompts, and common application work, to ensure consistent input/output behavior. Confirm that the KA7130 maintains stable video signal, accurate keyboard input, and responsive mouse control under typical workloads.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What systems are supported by the ATEN KA7130? The KA7130 is designed for Sun legacy systems that rely on 13W3 video and mini-DIN keyboard/mouse connections. It serves as a bridge between Sun hosts and KVM console setups, making it ideal for SPARCstations, Suns, and other Sun-era workstations or servers.
  • Which video connector does the KA7130 use? It uses a 13W3 male video connector, a classic standard for Sun displays that supports reliable, high-quality video transmission from Sun hosts to your console.
  • Does the KA7130 support USB keyboards or mice? The connector interfaces are designed for Sun-era keyboard/mouse via mini-DIN. USB keyboards and mice are not natively supported through the KA7130’s standard ports without adapters, so for full USB compatibility you would need a different bridge or adapter designed for USB inputs.
  • Is external power required for the KA7130? In typical configurations, the KA7130 operates as a passive adapter and does not require an external power supply. However, some deployment scenarios or additional management features may vary; always test in your specific environment to confirm power and signal behavior.
  • Can I use the RJ-45 port for KVM over IP or remote management? The RJ-45 port provides networking connectivity for integration with network-based management tools. Its primary role is to support remote access configurations when paired with compatible management infrastructure. For pure local KVM control, you can operate without utilizing the network port.
  • What cables will I need to use with the KA7130? You will need a standard 13W3 video cable for the display connection and appropriate mini-DIN cables for the keyboard and mouse. Additional KVM cables may be required to connect the KA7130 to your console or switch, depending on your existing setup and hardware.

Pretty tough
Color: Black & Lake Blue
I think the toy is great, but my dog was not excited about it. He prefers the original type which is larger. I think it could possibly be cracked open by a dog with a large mouth and is intent on getting the noise maker out. But it is pretty tough.

Definitely tough but not enough
Color: Black & Lake Blue, Color: Black & Lake Blue
I've been searching high and low for a durable and engaging toy for my 90lb american bulldog. She's destroyed countless toys and her number of toys just keep rising. This lasted for a few hours before she was able to chew off the rubber shell. But now shes still enjoying the hard plastic ball on the inside. Its also a perfect size of ball for her as she can fit it in her jaws comfortably without any worry of he swallowing it. Wish the outside shell was more durable though.

Large ball, still makes noise and hasn’t chewed it up yet.
Color: Black & Lake Blue
He loves playing with it and it actually doesn’t get swallowed up in his very large mouth. He can still bark talk with it in his mouth which is impressive due to its larger than a softball. It nice because I don’t feel like I’m shoving my hand in his mouth to get it out which baseball size or smaller things I do. He hasn’t chewed it up like he does other squeak toys and it makes lots of noise when tossed and bouncing. It’s hard and he insists on playing with it. we broke a pot when we accidentally hit the pot with the ball. He is always bringing me toys to throw down the hall as we watch tv. I’m like no not that one get a different one. I’m afraid I’ll break something with that one due to how heavy and large it is. That one is an outside toy, he still brings me this one daily and we’ve had it for several weeks now. Plus my cousin little boy just visited and he loved playing with it too. Its made out of material that’s easy to clean for the 17month old to play with in his play pen. It’s not so heavy you can’t throw it just heavier than the others I’m willing to toss down the hall.
