Picaro Tinto may be the 'young' wine of Dominio del Águila but this is a hell of a lot more serious than it's jovial name suggests. It comes from old vineyards planted on clay and limestone on a northern exposure over looking the Gromejon Valley. The old vines here are interplanted with heritage varietals, meaning Tinto Fino or Tempranillo is aided by tiny additions of Blanca del Pais, Garnacha, Bobal, Tempranillo Gris and others. As with all of Dominio del Águila's vineyards they are farmed meticulously via organic methods with some biodynamic preparations. 

Once harvested whole bunches are lightly foot stomped before being fermented in concrete prior to aging and malolactic in barrel in underground caves. It's bottled after a year in oak without fining or filtration. 

The palate shows more vibrant dark cherry and fresh black fruit alongside a dark, savoury tar note. Thanks to the cool, even ripening conditions of the 2018 vintage and the continued meticulous vineyard work this might be the best vintage of Picaro yet. It manages to show an incredibly array of lifted bright fruit, backed by intense, long and delicate finish. This is really, really stylish Ribera.
