AMD Opteron Hexa-core 8439 SE 2.8GHz Processor

Powerful, efficient and enterprise-ready, the AMD Opteron Hexa-core 8439 SE 2.8GHz Processor is designed to optimize server performance for real-world workloads. Built on AMD's trusted Opteron architecture, this processor delivers balanced throughput and energy efficiency, enabling data centers to scale with confidence while lowering total cost of ownership. Whether you’re running virtualized environments, large databases, or analytics workloads, this processor provides a reliable foundation that pairs hardware efficiency with software flexibility. As part of AMD’s lineage of server-class CPUs, the 8439 SE focuses on efficiency and predictable performance, offering a single robust platform that can support evolving business demands without compromising stability. This makes it an attractive choice for mid-to-enterprise deployments seeking consistent performance per watt and substantial value over time.

  • Designed to excel with real-world workloads, the AMD Opteron 8439 SE 2.8GHz delivers steady, reliable performance across multi-threaded applications, virtualization platforms, and data-intensive services. It helps databases handle unpredictable query bursts, supports virtualization stacks with smooth guest OS operation, and maintains responsive performance under concurrent user activity. In environments where uptime and predictable throughput matter, this processor minimizes bottlenecks by balancing compute, memory access, and I/O readiness, ensuring workloads such as ERP, customer analytics, and business intelligence run with less latency and more consistent results. Its architectural design emphasizes throughput efficiency, so you can scale your cluster without paying a premium for raw MHz. This translates into better utilization of server blades, rack units, and virtualization hosts in modern data centers.
  • Energy efficiency and value that empowers a single platform to meet top-line demand. Unlike competitors that chase raw peak MHz, AMD Opteron-based servers emphasize efficiency, scalable performance, and a balanced architecture that reduces power draw while preserving throughput. This approach lowers total cost of ownership across the data center, lowering cooling costs and improving energy usage effectiveness (PUE). The result is a dependable platform that can run more virtual machines per host, support dense server configurations, and deliver steady performance during peak business cycles. The 2.8GHz base clock provides a solid baseline for common workloads while allowing hardware scheduling to respond to bursts and workload spikes with reliable cadence.
  • Enterprise-grade reliability and management capabilities. The Opteron 8439 SE is built for mission-critical deployments, featuring robust error handling and support for advanced server-management tools that help minimize downtime. It integrates smoothly with standard enterprise ecosystems, supporting remote monitoring and management through common out-of-band interfaces while maintaining compatibility with popular Linux and Windows server distributions. In practice, this means easier administration, faster repair cycles, and fewer unplanned outages. For organizations pursuing high availability, this processor aligns with service-level expectations through consistent thermals, stable performance under sustained load, and dependable operation across diverse workloads.
  • Compatibility and ecosystem that simplify deployment. As a server-class CPU, the Opteron 8439 SE is designed to work with existing AMD platforms and widely supported enterprise software ecosystems. It supports virtualization technologies, containerized workloads, and data center orchestration tools that rely on a stable instruction set and virtualization extensions. With broad operating system support and mature driver availability, administrators can deploy this processor with confidence in familiar server stacks. The standardized architecture ensures that add-on cards, memory configurations, and storage controllers can be selected based on performance needs rather than compatibility constraints, enabling faster deployment of new servers or refresh cycles. This compatibility translates into fewer integration hurdles and a smoother path to modernization across rack-based deployments and cloud-ready environments.
  • Future-ready and scalable for diverse workloads. Designed to scale with data center strategies, the Opteron 8439 SE offers a pathway to higher density and broader virtualization capacity. By delivering dependable base performance with a balanced power envelope, it fits into multi-socket server configurations and dense compute nodes, supporting large-scale databases, analytics pipelines, and virtualization clusters. The processor’s architecture is well-suited for mixed workloads—transactional databases, analytics, memory-intensive applications, and general enterprise tasks—allowing IT teams to consolidate servers without sacrificing reliability. This scalability translates into lower footprint for hardware management, simplified procurement, and more predictable capacity planning as business demands grow. For organizations aiming to optimize capital expenditure and operating costs, adopting a capable Opteron-based platform ensures you gain efficiency today with a flexible upgrade path for the future.

How to install AMD Opteron Hexa-core 8439 SE 2.8GHz Processor

Follow these general steps to install the processor into a compatible server motherboard. Always refer to the motherboard manual for socket type, zoning, and safety precautions, and ensure you are working with the system powered down and unplugged.

  • Power down the server, unplug from the power source, and discharge any static buildup by touching a grounded metal surface.
  • Open the server chassis and locate the CPU socket. Release the socket lever or latch according to the motherboard’s design.
  • Align the 8439 SE processor with the socket, matching the corner indicators or pin orientation. Gently place the processor into the socket—do not force it.
  • Close the socket lever and secure the processor. If applicable, apply a thin, even layer of thermal interface material or rely on the included thermal solution as per the motherboard instructions.
  • Mount the heatsink or cooling assembly, connect any required fans or auxiliary cooling, and reassemble the chassis. Reconnect power and boot to BIOS to verify CPU detection and update firmware if needed.

Frequently asked questions

Still Usefil for a Samsung S24 Ultra User
Color: Black
The Charging Pad: The pad is super flat (nearly the same thickness as the pad) and looks nice next to it or a similar mouse and keyboard pad. It works perfectly for my Samsung S24 Ultra without a case on it, but having a 'magsafe' style case would improve the experience. You do have to take a second to get the alignment right. It uses USB-C instead of cheaping out with a micro, and the status light is helpful. I don't think I own anything that can charge in the headphone area, and in case you're wondering, neither spot will charge a Samsung smartwatch (as expected). I'd nearly recommend this just for the charging pad since it's so unobtrusive on the desk. Just remember you'll need to route that wire out of the top of it somewhere. The mouse pad: The size is probably perfect for a typical keyboard and mouse user. I always have a 3D mouse on the left, and an extra long Coursair keyboard, so I prefer having a gigantic mat for all of that. But there is one feature of this mouse pad that I like more than most. The material doesn't attract every spec of dirt and hair in the universe, and it's easy to wipe off. Because of this, I use the pad under my 3D mouse and keyboard, with a larger full-desk pad underneath (including the mouse area). The felt material on the back keeps this locked to my desk, and unlike a rubberized pad, isn't going to turn into glue after a few years. I did test my mouse on the pad, and it feels fairly good. It's not too smooth, and is a bit easier on your hand, but very serious gamers may take some time to adjust.

Smaller and more expensive than artisian deskmats
Color: Black
These are slightly smaller than the standard artisan deskmats and double the price.. It's also about half the thickness, so there's not as much padding. This isn't a huge deal. if the felt is on the bottom, it doesn't grip to the desk very well. The wireless charger is okay, but I found it bulky. Having a small dedicated 3 in 1 charging stand was more convenient for me. If you have a heaver mechanical keyboard, you won't be able to lift this thing to see underneath it. Overall, this is an okay deskmat and it'll serve it's purpose when I'm washing my regular deskmat, but not my favorite.

Don’t bother, not worth the $
Much smaller in person than it appears. Looks more like a piece of coral than a tree. I got this to display some ornaments for sale at craft fairs, but it’s so small, it looks silly with the ornaments on it. Super flimsy, made of cheap plastic. Definitely not worth $14. Will be returning.
