This is the only 6-piece J2 steel kitchen knife set at JW Steel Crafts with black resin and rosewood handles, a mirror polish finish, and a matching carving fork in this configuration.

The History Behind This Blade

Professional carving sets — a long knife paired with a matching fork — became a fixture of Western kitchen and dining culture through the Victorian era. Carvers used the fork to steady large roasts while the knife sliced cleanly alongside the bone. Adding the carving fork to a full kitchen knife set turned a prep collection into a complete table-to-kitchen system. J2 steel entered professional kitchen use for its high chromium content, strong corrosion resistance, and ability to take a high mirror polish — qualities that made it a standard choice in commercial kitchen environments worldwide. The JW Steel Crafts J2 steel set brings that same professional system into every kitchen.

What Is Inside the Set

  • Chef Knife — Primary slicing, chopping, and daily prep tasks, largest blade at 13 inches

  • Cleaver — Heavy vegetable breakdown and meat portioning with hollow ground flat edge

  • Santoku — Flat edge for precise vegetable cuts and all-purpose daily prep

  • Utility Knife — Mid-size trimming, portioning, and general prep tasks

  • Paring Knife — Peeling, scoring, and close-hand detail work, smallest at 7 inches

  • Carving Fork — Steadies roasts and large cuts during carving and table service

Blade Performance

Every blade is forged from J2 steel and finished to a high mirror polish. J2 steel carries a high chromium content that builds strong corrosion resistance through daily kitchen use — no oiling required and no surface rust in normal kitchen conditions. The mirror polish finish reduces drag during slicing and gives each blade a smooth, controlled cutting feel across all food types. Full tang construction runs through every black resin handle and spreads weight evenly from blade tip to handle base for stable and controlled cutting across all five knives and the carving fork.

Handle Construction

Every handle is shaped from black resin with rosewood spacer strips running through the scales. The rosewood spacers add a warm natural contrast against the deep black resin surface. Resin does not absorb moisture, does not swell or crack, and holds its surface finish through daily kitchen use. Steel bolsters sit between each blade and handle, adding front-end weight for better cutting balance and protecting fingers during heavy prep. Silver pins lock every handle firmly to the full tang for long-term structural reliability across all six pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this set different from other kitchen knife sets at JW Steel Crafts?

This is the only J2 steel kitchen set in the store with a mirror polish finish, black resin and rosewood handles, and a matching carving fork — no other listing combines this steel, finish, and fork configuration.

What is J2 steel?

J2 steel is a high-chromium stainless steel used in professional kitchen knives for its strong corrosion resistance, edge stability, and ability to take a high mirror polish finish.

What is the carving fork for?

The carving fork steadies large roasts, whole poultry, and thick meat cuts during carving, keeping the protein stable while the chef knife slices alongside the bone.

What do the rosewood spacers on the handle do?

The rosewood strips run through the black resin scales and add a warm natural color contrast against the dark handle surface, giving each piece a layered handcrafted appearance.

Are all six pieces full tang?

Yes. The tang runs the full length of every black resin handle across all five knives and the carving fork for strength and long-term durability.

Does this set include storage?

No. Use a magnetic wall strip, knife block, or knife roll. Never store loose in a drawer — blade contact dulls edges and risks scratching the mirror polish finish.

Is this set suitable as a gift?

Yes. The matched mirror polish blades, black resin and rosewood handles, steel bolsters, and carving fork make this a strong gift for home cooks, professional chefs, and kitchen knife collectors.

Buddy filled diesel skid steer with automotive gas engine oil. Used this to help.
We all know that guy who will buy a $65,000 machine and then only service it once a year with the cheapest oil on the shelf from Rural King or some other place with ultra cheap, home branded, questionably quality oil. Yep. That is my good buddy. So I go to the shop a couple weeks back and he is re-filling the skid steer engine with some ultra cheap, totally not to spec, gas engine oil. I question him and he states that it is perfect oil for the machine being 5W-30. I ask him if it meets the SAE ratings for the diesel, he repeats back that yep... it is 5W-30. So I go grab his New Holland book (C232 track skid steer) and look up the oil requirements, then I look at this junk oil, and I try to explain to him the SAE designations on the back of the bottle and the SAE requirements in the book. He looks at me like I have 3 heads and repeats that it is 5W-30, it is totally good. Someone.... kill me please! He has no clue what I am trying to explain. So I couldn't sleep knowing what he is doing, and I ran to Amazon to see if I can at least get zinc to add to the wrong oil and try to help the cam followers and rockers survive this next year. I found this. I ordered a few bottles and had them shipped to his shop, and I explained to him that these need to be dumped in to at least make an attempt in not prematurely wear the engine that likely is worth $20,000 or more! So the real question is, will he actually dump these into the machine, or will he toss them on a shelf never to be seen again? We may never know. But I bet next winter he will once again shop for the cheapest oil on earth to put in a machine that costs as much as some peoples home. He is who he is, you can never change that.

High quality replacement clips. Highly recommend.
I used these when replacing the headlight assemblies on my 2011 Honda CR-V. A few clips were already missing before I even started taking the bumper off, and of course a couple more didn’t survive the job. These fit perfectly and snapped right in with no issues. If you’re missing clips or break some while doing a repair, these are a simple fix that gets everything secured again. Very good deal.
