Along the coast the town of Buffels Bay straddles Walker Point in the west. The satellite towns of Brenton-on-Sea, Lake Brenton and Belvidere are also included. All road infrastructure is shown, as well as the now defunct railway line to George.

Knysna's history is deeply connected to its beautiful estuary and the surrounding indigenous forests. The town was officially established in the early 19th century and became an important timber port, with wood from the forests being shipped to all parts of the British Empire. The Knysna Heads, two towering sandstone cliffs that guard the entrance to the estuary, made navigation challenging but also provided a naturally sheltered harbour. The town's economy later diversified to include a thriving oyster industry. Today, Knysna is a major Garden Route destination, celebrated for its scenic beauty, the annual Oyster Festival, and its role as a hub for eco-tourism and outdoor activities.
