Experience enterprise-grade storage connectivity with the Cisco Emulex LPe16002 Dual-Port 16Gb Fibre Channel HBA w/SR Optics. Designed to deliver dependable, high-speed access to storage area networks, this dual-port host bus adapter is ideal for data centers, virtualization hosts, and mission-critical applications that demand predictable latency, excellent throughput, and robust reliability. With two independent 16 Gb Fibre Channel ports and short-range (SR) optical transceivers, the LPe16002 enables scalable SAN integration, simplified zoning, and resilient data paths that help organizations accelerate backup, archiving, and real-time workloads. Built on Broadcom’s Emulex architecture, this HBA combines proven hardware with mature management features, reducing deployment time and lowering total cost of ownership for demanding enterprise environments.

  • Dual-Port 16Gb Fibre Channel performance: Each port delivers up to 16 gigabits per second of throughput, enabling high-bandwidth access to SAN storage and efficient workload parallelization. The two-port design supports link aggregation, multipathing, and scalable fabrics, making it a solid foundation for growing data-center storage needs.
  • SR optics for flexible data-center deployment: Short-range optical transceivers are included to support diverse fiber plant layouts, enabling reliable connections over multi-mode fiber with reduced insertion loss and improved link budgets in dense server racks and blade environments.
  • Enterprise-grade reliability and efficiency: The LPe16002 is built for continuous operation in 24/7 data-center workloads, featuring hardware offloads, error detection, and streamlined firmware updates. It reduces host CPU overhead and helps maintain consistent I/O performance during peak load periods.
  • Broad compatibility and virtualization readiness: This HBA is designed to work seamlessly with major operating systems and virtualization platforms, supporting common SAN features like NPIV, zoning, hardware-assisted load balancing, and multi-path I/O software stacks for fault-tolerant connectivity.
  • Easy deployment and centralized management: With mature management tools and documented installation procedures, administrators can configure ports, zones, and performance parameters efficiently, enabling rapid SAN provisioning and easier ongoing maintenance in complex environments.

How to install Cisco Emulex LPe16002 Dual-Port 16Gb Fibre Channel HBA

  • Prepare the server: power down, disconnect power, and discharge static electricity. Remove the chassis cover following your server’s security and safety procedures.
  • Insert the LPe16002 card into an appropriate PCIe slot (refer to your server’s hardware guide for slot compatibility and lane requirements). Ensure the card is seated firmly and secured with a PCIe slot screw.
  • Attach SR optics cables: connect two Fibre Channel cabling runs from the storage array or SAN switch to the two optical ports on the HBA. Verify secure fiber connections and proper transceiver alignment to maximize link stability.
  • Power on and install drivers: boot the server and install the recommended Emulex/Broadcom drivers and firmware. Use the vendor-provided management software to initialize the card and confirm port visibility.
  • Configure SAN connectivity: set up zoning or masking as required by your storage environment, enable multipathing if desired, and verify basic connectivity by performing an I/O test to the storage target. Validate failover paths and throughput across both ports.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is the Cisco Emulex LPe16002 used for? A: It is a dual-port 16Gb Fibre Channel HBA designed to connect servers to Fibre Channel SAN storage, delivering high-throughput, low-latency I/O and scalable connectivity for data centers and virtualization hosts.
  • Q: Do the SR optics come with the card? A: Yes, SR optical transceivers are included to support short-range multi-mode fiber deployments typical in data centers and blade environments.
  • Q: Is this HBA compatible with popular hypervisors and operating systems? A: The LPe16002 is designed to work with common enterprise platforms and SAN management ecosystems, offering solid support for virtualization, clustering, and multi-path I/O configurations. Always check the latest compatibility matrix from Cisco Emulex for known-good configurations.
  • Q: Can I use this card in a hot-swappable server environment? A: In most enterprise servers, PCIe HBAs like the LPe16002 are hot-swappable, allowing installation or replacement with the server powered down or in maintenance mode, depending on the device’s capabilities and your data-center policies.
  • Q: What kind of performance gains can I expect? A: With two 16Gb Fibre Channel ports, you gain parallel I/O paths, higher aggregate bandwidth, and improved load balancing. The exact gains depend on your storage array, network fabric, and workload characteristics, but expect lower latency under heavy I/O and better multi-task throughput in SAN-intensive environments.
  • Q: Is firmware updates supported and easy to apply? A: Yes. Emulex/ Broadcom provide firmware updates to improve performance, reliability, and compatibility. Use the vendor’s management tool to apply updates in a controlled manner, ideally during maintenance windows.

Our Dog Is OBSESSED – Night Play Game Changer!
This light-up dog ball is a total hit in our house. As you can see from the photos, the glow is bright and easy to spot even in complete darkness, which makes nighttime play so much safer and more fun. The motion-activated light turns on instantly when my dog nudges or bites it, and the 90-second auto glow is perfect. The silicone material feels soft but durable, gentle on teeth, and my dog loves carrying it around. USB-C charging is super convenient, and one charge easily lasts multiple evening play sessions. It’s also water-resistant, so no worries about grass or dew. Perfect size for small to medium dogs, and it keeps my pup engaged and active after sunset. Highly recommend for anyone who wants fun, visible, and stress-free night play with their dog!

Better yet imporbable than the original LaRoo Ball
I owned the LaRoo v1 (old version of this ball) my 100lb lab loved it. It was the first light up toy to resist the strength of this jaw. It glowed bright enough and stayed on long enough to be fun for the dog in the darkest settings. Unfortunately I was stress testing it and he was able to unscrew it at some point and destroy the ball. Supervised it was great. Onto this new one. It glows brighter for longer, great improvement on the original red one. My issue comes with the cap. They changed it from a threaded screw on cap to a bayonet mount (push in turn 1/16 of a turn its locked) the issue is that the bayonet plug was a few mm too short in tolerance and slipped out on our first play session. Its not nearly as secure as it once was. That being said a couple rounds of electrical tape around the perimeter of the plug and it now fits securely in the slot and is safe for puppy. This is a hard ball comparable to a baseball in size and softness. It doesn't make noise. The dog LOVES it. Its his favorite toy. If your dog plays fetch they will love this toy.

Not practical
I really wanted to like this ball, but it didn’t work well for us. The rubber is very hard and heavy, which made it difficult for my dog to catch it in the air and it was less enjoyable to play with overall. After only a short time, the plastic lid got stuck, and now I’m unable to open it to recharge the ball. The light feature is a nice idea, but between the hardness of the ball and the charging issue, it just wasn’t practical. Disappointing quality for the price.

Perfect night-play companion
This ball is a total lifesaver for our evening routine. It’s perfectly suited for nighttime, the glow is so bright and consistent. My pup used to get so disappointed when the sun went down because it meant we had to stop playing ball. Now, the fun doesn't have to end! He never has to feel let down by the dark again. Seeing his face light up (literally!) is the best part.
